wait till anyone of us have a chance to catch it on 79.Originally posted by Donavan:What about SBS 526 B (The double-sounding fella.)
Yeah, it gets louder as it accelerates until it changes gear.Originally posted by ^tamago^:from what you say, the whistle sounds like turbo to me, you know. the higher the rpm of the bus, the more audible the whistle becomes, right?
confirm is turbo sound. all have it, just that some are more audible than others.Originally posted by stooper:Yeah, it gets louder as it accelerates until it changes gear.
Yup, 914727.Originally posted by 914727:Do some lances have turbo? I have heard the whistling sound when i took some of the lances.
I myself have come to disagree that the MK 4 DM with Voith DIWA 381.4 transmission is having a Volvo THD101GD engine. If this engine is fitted with Voith, it could have an uncanny sound of the B10M MK III. However, it doesn't! Upon riding some of these MK 4 DM with Voith transmission, they sound more like a Volvo THD102KF.Originally posted by SBS9828X:Volvo B10M Mk IV DM (early)

I believe that the low pitched rumbling is the hub-reduction axle. Another example is 340U of 242.Originally posted by Donavan:btw 526C has double-sound.
The normal engine sound kicks in first.
Then a strangely different sound came in. For whatever reason, it sounded more low-pitch. Would anyone mind explaining why?
Low pitch rumbling? There are also some B10Ms which emit a lower pitch also but increases in pitch as the bus accelerates, the pitch is not dependant on rpm but seems to be more dependant on speed of wheels. Is that the hub-reduction axle? What is its anyway?Originally posted by The_Bus_Guide:I believe that the low pitched rumbling is the hub-reduction axle. Another example is 340U of 242.
The Lance turbo-lag very long, it seems to me to only kick in when only about to shift to 3rd gear.Originally posted by 914727:Do some lances have turbo? I have heard the whistling sound when i took some of the lances.
from my experience, the idlng sound is like that of Mk III.Originally posted by SBS9816E:I myself have come to disagree that the MK 4 DM with Voith DIWA 381.4 transmission is having a Volvo THD101GD engine. Reminds me of TIB 1010 Y... Turbo kicks at 3rd gear, and chiong down bukit timah rd, adam rd, lornie rd at night. shiok... 25 mins home from bukit batokOriginally posted by SBS1908B:The Lance turbo-lag very long, it seems to me to only kick in when only about to shift to 3rd gear.
A hub-reduction axle is the big cylinder found on the rear axle of the O405. Inside, there are gears immersed in oil. B10M do not have a hub-reduction axle. The hub-reduction axle makes a "wooo wooo wooo wooo" sound when the bus is at speed.Originally posted by SBS1908B:Low pitch rumbling? From the description by "stooper", I believe the loud whine is from the torque convertor and not the turbo. ZF gearboxes are known for their loud, whining torque converter sound. The turbo whistle on the B10M is very faint and you can't hear them.Originally posted by ^tamago^:confirm is turbo sound. all have it, just that some are more audible than others.
I'm not sure about other depots but SLBP has quite a number with very loud reductors! Like 3732C and 3746M. They are also very distinctive when braking from full speed!Originally posted by The_Bus_Guide:The newer generation O405s have quiet hubs and they are most of the time drowned by the much louder engine noise. However, due to the age of SBST's O405s, the hubs have become louder. An O405 with a full load can also make the hubs 'hum'.
