In my opinion, the new service 85 would not be using double decker buses but single deck buses. I don't think hgdep has enough double decker buses. Besides that, this new Service 85 is much more of an inter-town link service, hence the popularity of the service needs some time to have it developed.Originally posted by Donavan:Now would said it would use DDs on the first day?

Again, these 2 services serve different territories. Hence, these 2 services provide different needs of passengers.
For Service 161, the demand would be from Hougang/Sengkang area, and then the paxs will be brought to Woodlands directly.
For Service 965, it provides paxs who want to go to Yishun from Sengkang. Else, it would be an alternative from Sengkang to Woodlands.
Eventually, paxs who want to reach Woodlands directly would want to take Service 161. This may be the apparent reason why the load can be good and require double decker buses. -
That would not be the probable reason why Service 85 comes about. Most likely it's a service that SBS Transit would like to use to expand a bit more of its market into Yishun area. In that way, it would provide another alternative for passengers who want to get out of Yishun area to somewhere else. PGL residents really suay. MRT station is at the end of the town. buses bring you to limited places.

sometimes i think that SBST having svc 34 is quite useless, ply only a little bit or none of Punggol then go to Tampines/CGA, why not have svc 27 being extend to Punggol Int then towards Tampines/CGA? is SBST wasting its buses on svc 34?

u all know why does some original trunk services plies part of a town before leaving it? such as 8, 28, 29, 56, 86, etc, its to enhance links.
while some services uses a short route out of the town? eg. 34, 43, 81,168, Toa Payoh, AMK svcs etc?
for sv34 and 43, i say its to make people take a feeder or LRT to the interchange, and then transfer to another service. (main purpose of a interchage?)
however, this pattern is not seen from enhanced sv518.. -
