When I took 178 on a Nissan Diesel U31RCN bus, it reminds me of the old Nissan Diesel U31 SCN, some kind of nostalgia for me.
I think 178 should deploy more of MB O405 buses.

anywae, i ride 178 most of the time since it pass by my hse...
hmmm, ridership is definitely not that good...
178 seems to have many rivals on its route..
towards JE - 66, 176, 506
towards BNL - 157, 174
towards WDL - 187, 963
well, im just speakin from my daily experience...i usually take the alternate services mentioned above as the frequency for 178 is like 20 to 25 mins...
its really a hopeless service, yet, at times useful.
Useful cos some Marsiling residents depends on it to travel to and fro to WDL Int...
Way before the WDL MRT Line, this bus was always crowded...if there were bendies back then, i feel 178 could have gotten them... but not for the current situation now...
i once wrote in to SMRT requestin them to enhance 178's route... maybe ply Yew Tee...
but they replied sayin there is not a need for Yew Tee residents to get another bus service.. -

Nissan U31 RCN buses have the EDS desto whereas the SCN ones don't have the EDS destos. TIB251A-TIB336P are the SCN buses (NAC Nissans), however phased out in year 2001. -

SCNs came in 1985-1986, RCNs came in 1992-1993.

Service 178 did have 0405 some times. According to my records, 825U and 802K did 178 on 18th Jan this year, but personally this is very rare. Always CAC Nissans so far, even OACs are getting less on 178. Although I don't take 178 every day, but do have to when going down to Jurong or to Woodlands, but I would prefer to take 963 to Woodlands from my home, a chance to catch the volgren 0405GNs.

I wonder what happens if SMRT decided to deploy those wonderful buses on 960, 962, 963 , 966 and feeder services.
