As for the 179 LOs I attribute that to the hilly terrain of NTU, the short running time the driver has, and the passenger load on the bus. I find the 179 LOs are good work horses, although they may have overworked la.. -

Complaint against svc 109:
1) Extremely low frequency, especially during AM peak hour. What is worse is that the buses can arrive 10-15min earlier or later than what is should arrive, making it unpredictable and unreliable. True, the new svc has cut my travel time by 5min, excluding the fact that walking distance has also been cut, but the long wait easily negated this advantage. I've heard conversations on 109 that went something like this: Hello? Yah. I'm on 109, now in Sengkang. Yah I know! But I left home at 0800! Ok ok, coming coming. (Note that this conversation took place at 0840)
2) Bad bus conditions to match with lousy driving. 1825G, 1818C vibrates most violently on TPE and several times, I thought a screw would fall off the bus. 955X appears to have a faulty clutch which makes its gear switches abrupt, noisy and awkward, with plenty of gear-clashing sounds. 1825G broke down, and this caused pax and me to wait an additional half-an-hour for the next bus. So total waiting time? Easily 1 hr. Caused me to be late. And 109 BCs are a breed of their own. One sang cantonese hot numbers on TPE, and spat loudly out of the window. Many are cautious drivers who want to go fast, but are scared. Result: Jerking bus. Others are just sloooow, but most often rush, and I've been taken on wild-rides. Eg. Overtaking taxi, car, other buses on main road, and a trailer carrying concrete pipe.
But the most tokong BC I've seen was one who decided that TPE traffic flow was too heavy for him and promptly stopped at the road shoulder just after the slip-road and waited for traffic to thin before entering the expressway! Caused much honks.
3) Timetables that are just beyond comprehension. If a bus arrived half an hour later, you should expect the BC to be late, but strangely, there would be the high-pitched DEEE, and the BC would go slower than ever. This is no joke especially when I tell you that 2 161s will pass me by everyday while I wait, and for a svc with rather low rider-ship, the bus would arrive packed to the brim. If you think I should just leave home to pong the bus at the correct time, sorry. The bus schedule is so unpredictable, there's little choice. The bus can arrive between 0640-0710. Its just ridiculous.
So I've placed my faith with decidedly slower 89 which provides much better svc. -

Hi, my fav bus SBS 316R got some problem... When it is stopping for the traffic light or bus stop, the engine would vibrate hardly that the seats in front also can feel it. So dunno whether anyone can repair this problem?

Hi, this days I done a investigation on express 502.
Timing: Mon-Fri 12-4pm
From Pionner Rd to Orchard taking Express502: 1hr
From Pionner Rd to Orchard taking Bus + MRT: 55mins
Timing: Mon-Fri 4pm- 11pm
From Pionner Rd to Orchard taking Express502: 1hr 5 mins
From Pionner Rd to Orchard taking Bus + MRT: 50 mins
Timing: Weekends (Whole Day)
From Pionner Rd to Orchard taking Express502: 1hr 10mins
From Pionner Rd to Orchard taking Bus + MRT: 1hr
Conclusion: Express 502 is getting slower, is it not a express service to the people staying in Jurong West St 75 and Pionner Rd. MRT are faster.
Suggestion: I suggest SBS Transit to operate 502A and 502B in normal timing.
This is to shorten the time for the people who board in pioneer rd. It would be very tiring staying in a bus for more than an hour. Communters also paid a expensive fare for the "Express" service, I guess this should not be the service given to the communters staying in Jurong West St75 and Pionner Rd. -
The main load comes from the passengers commuting between Pioneer Rd North/Gek Poh Estate to/from Jurong West/East Ave 1 since 502 is the only service linking the 2 neighbourhoods. Plying 2 services would mean deploying double the buses at the cost of losing half the demand.

The traffic condition in Jurong West/East is really bad. I think 502A can be started at a selective timing. It is to have about 3 normal 502 then 1 502A. If not they got to really increase the frequency, it would be dangerous having a full loaded bus travelling in the expressway and in a high speed.

No. Morning peak 502A is only almost fully seated, sometimes with a couple of people standing, both morning & evening peaks; while 502B is as packed as sardine.Originally posted by SBS 233 X:Does the demand really really good until they really need to put more buses for 502A?
Off-peak 502 is normally almost fully seated at the Pioneer/Boon Lay section, with more than half alighting at the Ave 1/Toh Guan section, even with the 25mins interval. For the return trip, the load is almost non-existant before noon. However it is fully packed during the weekend afternoons & evenings with about half alighting at the Ave 1/Toh Guan section. -
I recalled the incident on Monday night. When I was boarding Express 502 around 10.30pm. It was packed like sardine. People stood at the stairs while the bus was travelling along PIE. Someone even confronted the driver that he was late. The driver answered him that he do not know as he only follow the schedule. Let 502A to exit at jurong west ave (The canal ). This would greatly decrease the timing to jurong west for about 20%. Only this would reduce the crowd and cut the time short for people staying in Pioneer Rd.

Plus why do you think SBST put 3 502Bs during the evening peak. I think 502's prob can be fixed by improving on the frequency instead of changing the route. 15-25 mins interval is too long. -
502 and 518 same case...
if someone boards at the first stop ie Pioneer Rd Nth or Pasir Ris Int, the bus will take very long to reach the express sector... -
I think maybe not the canal, but 502 should exit at the new junction before the canal.
