Actually, when I was coming up with this bus route through the midst of my insanity, I was thinking about places that lack bus routes or have a high number of complaints about the bus service there, and Sembawang, Choa Chu Kang Way, Teck Whye, and the newer areas of Bukit Panjang came onto my radar. As for the big loop around Bukit Panjang - well, I initially made it worse by making it go round Bukit Panjang Ring Road - which not only means bigger loops, but near-exact LRT duplication, which will just won't work; I made it go right through the heart of the newer area of Bukit Panjang, where the LRT doesn't serve directly, so to make it more worthwhile. My route strategy here was to have my new route go beyond the town centre to double up as a feeder route, then backtrack to the town centre to use it as a convenient terminating point - we already have a few bus routes doing that (54 and 980, anyone?
). Those wanting to go to the town centre while wanting to avoid the big loop would get off at the bus stop along Bukit Panjang Road.
A slightly modified route 982, after taking in some of your suggestions, as well as thinking about it:
Sembawang Vista, Canberra Road, Admiralty Drive, Woodlands Avenues 10/9/2/1/3 (in that order), Woodlands Road, Kranji Road, Kranji Loop, Sungei Kadut Drive, Choa Chu Kang Way, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4, Choa Chu Kang Drive, Teck Whye Avenue, Choa Chu Kang Road, Bukit Panjang Road, Bukit Panjang Ring Road, Jelapang Road, Saujana Road, Fajar Road, Bukit Panjang Ring Road, and Petir Road.

The difference is the routing around the Kranji, Yew Tee and Choa Chu Kang parts. The former goes up to Kranji and skips Yew Tee station, while the later skips Kranji but serves Yew Tee station. Two other possibilities would be to make it serve both Kranji and Yew Tee station, or skip both of them altogether.
For both versions, I tried to make it more worthwhile around Marsiling by making it serve areas not served by the station, but I found it hard not to make it circuitous without skipping the Civic Plaza, so that suggestion has to go.

Not a useful route. Too few sectors for demand. Unnecessary Express Route. 157 settles Toa Payoh <--> Bukit Timah pretty well. No point having a bus jump straight onto the Expressway from Eunos to TPY, 506, 59 and 5 all do the same job!!Originally posted by SBS2671B:Express 505# (Weekend Route)

In addition, it's not like Clementi needs another service to Orchard, Dover or Holland Road. I don't understand the fact that you're also duplicating 106 at the same time from Dover to Holland.
There's also 147 and 166 to Selegie from Clementi, 65 to Orchard/Selegie from Bedok Reservoir.
The way it's strutured, you remind me of 106 --> 65 --> 3. (though it isn't the exact route).
A nice try at doing a 51, but the purpose isn't very clear. Perhaps you could enlighten me. -
