No . For what ? Remember . Public buses have auto gearboxes . That makes them having lesser fuel efficiency as compare with those coaches using manual gearboxes , which means more frequent stops to the gas station and that goes to show one thing, not economically wise .Originally posted by patdog112:can local public bus services go into malaysia for longest distance route..?
etc all the way to KL or malcca?
attract people by lower fares than those private bus companies..? but instead of luxary buses it uses normal public buses we see on the road
Unless ERP gantries are erected along Scotts Rd to reduce massive jam along Stevens Rd during morning peak, or else svc 190,700,960 will continue to be stuck there for a long time there.Originally posted by lemon1974:Eng Neo Ave can also jammed during peak hours at junction of Dunearn Road..
a lot of SV 190 buses does go off service back to BP or CCK..
it shall terminate at Marina Centre as from Boon Lay - Marina Centre it shall have at least 30 fare stagesOriginally posted by iveco:Will it loop @ Suntec or terminate? Then return route ply Stamford Rd & Hill St?
Until SMRTB deliever its promises to reroute 858 into Sembawang, which was like 1 year ago, I seriously dont think any of these above will happen. 852 slightly maybe, but not so for 854 and 969.Originally posted by tanjun:Extension of services 852, 854, 969 to sembawang.
I think 969 definately a no-no , even before reaching Yishun the buses already packed. Unless they have alternative service to go sembawang , but again , its impossible.Originally posted by Yaimster:Until SMRTB deliever its promises to reroute 858 into Sembawang, which was like 1 year ago, I seriously dont think any of these above will happen. 852 slightly maybe, but not so for 854 and 969.
But Stamford Rd can turn left to Hill St.Originally posted by Kheng Peng:it shall terminate at Marina Centre as from Boon Lay - Marina Centre it shall have at least 30 fare stages
as for the return trip i will ply raffles avenue and north bridge road
Oh I c. Sigh!! If the above three services are extended to Sembawang which are just addition of around three stages or so, Sembawang will be a more accessible place.Originally posted by Yaimster:Until SMRTB deliever its promises to reroute 858 into Sembawang, which was like 1 year ago, I seriously dont think any of these above will happen. 852 slightly maybe, but not so for 854 and 969.

TIBS had rejected tonnes of requests (including mine) requests to extend to Sembawang. Reason cited being was the 1 hour promised travel time would be breached should the amendment occur.Originally posted by Volvo Olympian:I think 969 definately a no-no , even before reaching Yishun the buses already packed. IMO 965 can be amended to ply Sembawang also.....Originally posted by off_service:There had been a recent increase of writings to newspaper requesting for more services in Sembawang. These are the few:
1. Extension of 857 to Sembawang
2. Extension of 168 or 969 to Sembawang
and 1 or 2 more which I can't remember.
As mentioned, I'm still waiting for the promised 858 amendment to materialise.
If such an amendment goes ahead, I forsee that SLBP will have to take responsibility for 198.Originally posted by tanjun:Before it is implemented, these are the ways to get to Eu Tong Sen Street and Marina Centre from the streets plied by 198 without making any transfers.
Boon Lay AvenueEu Tong Sen Street : 174
Boon Lay Town to Marina Centre: 502, 502B
Jurong Town Hall Rd to Eu Tong Sen Street: 143 (I prefer the extended 198 as it is shorter)
Buona Vista Flyover, North Buona Vista Rd to Suntec: 14, 196
Buona Vista Flyover to Eu Tong Sen Street: 33
Commonwealth Ave to Suntec: 196, 111
Commonwealth Ave to Eu Tong Sen Street: 145, 147
Queensway, Jln Bt Merah Kg Bahru Rd to Eu Tong Sen Street: 147, 961
Queensway, Jln Bt Merah Kg Bahru Rd to Marina Centre: 961 (only in Suns and Public Holidays)
Bt Merah Town to Suntec: 16
On the whole, from the perspective of a consumer, I gain a new service to the extended areas although I already have bus services that goes to them.
SBST has to deploy more buses on this new extended service 198 for the same freq. Besides, I notice that the extended sector of this service is similar to service 961 operating on suns and public holidays.
but got another service 859 ply between yishun and sembawang int too...you expect to give more competiton.but the way take mrt is better and CHEAPEST one.bus-$0.87 to $1.08.MRT-$0.65 lah.Originally posted by Kheng Peng:or maybe SMRTB can introduce a new service 850 which plies between Sembawang - Yishun (Loop) if they do not want to extend any of Yishun's trunk services

i agree with ur 2nd & 3rd point but not really the 1st point , we've auto gear inter-city coaches like PZ1000S & PZ2000K which are Volvo Mk4s tht are running on auto gears , some scania coaches hv opticruise & can run auto also.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:No . Second , for overland use , its preferred if you use a bus with a good suspension , example the O405 , B10M . The North South highway can be very bumpy at some areas .
Thirdly , the seats aren't meant for travelling times of over 5hrs . I sat on one for just 1hr and my butt hurts already .
