si mi xi CIQ and what is the purpose of CIQ..heard of it but dunno what e heck is it?Originally posted by sbst275:From yesterday's trip to JB, been noticing the slow movement of buses due to those Express coaches
Was thinking, those Express coach should use E3/ Second Link as there are waiting berths available there
Yesterday, saw 6 SBS buses, 1 SJE, 1 SMRT bus & 1 CW1 bus at the JB CIQ towards JB stucked by those Coaches and Bas Kilang
Was there bet 2100 - 2140... Cleared SG CIQ within 10 mins
Customs, Immigration and Quarantine checkpoints............Originally posted by kengkia:si mi xi CIQ and what is the purpose of CIQ..heard of it but dunno what e heck is it?
so can i said that e notorious causeway jams are caused ym lack of space at JB CIQ..?Originally posted by SGEMP:Customs, Immigration and Quarantine checkpoints............
Passengers would have to get past them to clear their immigration and customs.......and get their passport stamped, their luggage inspected..........
--------------------------------------
SG may have sufficient space for buses to conduct custom and immigration, but I think JB CIQ may not have that much space.............at JB there I don't even see there are any space for buses to conduct customs immigration (esp the one towards Johor)
Otherwise SG-JB public buses (160, 170, CW1, CW2, 950) does not need to be delayed at JB CIQ..........
This is one of the factors.......there is simply no place at the Johor Bahru Checkpoint for the Johor-bound buses to park and conduct customs inspectionsOriginally posted by kengkia:so can i said that e notorious causeway jams are caused ym lack of space at JB CIQ..?
The clearance the worst is that, most cases they dun key in your departure details into the system, that's why they said 8m Singaporeans didn't MY last yearOriginally posted by SGEMP:This is one of the factors.......there is simply no place at the Johor Bahru Checkpoint for the Johor-bound buses to park and conduct customs inspections
......another factor being Malaysian bureaucracy.......they check the foreign and SG bus passengers' and car drivers' passports very slowly.........using old coms..........
My brother even see the Msian officials still using Windows 98 to do official tasks at JB checkpoint..............and I even see them using computers that are damaged or became old..............
The third factor, being too much buses on sv170, CW1 and too much Bas Kilang (now knowns as Bas Perkerja, the "workers' bus"; blue in colour).....honestly speaking.....JB roads can't cope with too much buses.............so does the JB CIQ...............
And the fourth factor being too much trucks.........they are much longer n slower than buses........and so easily causing jams.........
The last factor is, the KTM railway between M'sia and SG being terribly underused. It could have the potential to ease the SG-JB causeway jams and make passengers to not to rely too much on buses. But too bad, the KTM trains are always late, their coaches too old, have some safety problems, and the train runs not frequent (I have noted that they run [b]into and out[b] of SG at the frequency of 2-3hrs)..............and yeah they are a bit too "expensive"
This has caused them to rely on buses, leading the need for more buses, and thus causing jams near the CIQs............
single track layout is the reason why pple dont want to use train n instead rely on busesOriginally posted by sbst275:The KTM train, the prob I still believe is because of the single tracck layout
But it's hard to convert it to double deck at SG sideOriginally posted by SGEMP:single track layout is the reason why pple dont want to use train n instead rely on buses

Road hog?
Bas Kilang shuttle is illegalOriginally posted by XTransbus:it's more of bus kilang than coaches. Some coaches do take 2nd link eg. SG-Malacca espress and most of them do not stop at JB bus terminal. I don't quite see any bus kilang at 2nd link though. FYI. you can ride the bus kilang, just pay the driver a small sum of money and you can ride on it(some drivers don't allow this). Enter second link is much more expensive than causeway.
A bit off-topic: About 2 yrs ago, there was an illegal service between Singapore (Lavender MRT) to Senai Airport in Johor. LTA had stopped the two buses and went to investigate by LTA later on.Originally posted by sbst275:Bas Kilang shuttle is illegal
They are only permitted into SG on the basis as factory buses
I thot they are specifically reserved for workers only?!Originally posted by XTransbus:FYI. you can ride the bus kilang, just pay the driver a small sum of money and you can ride on it(some drivers don't allow this).
Underground one lahOriginally posted by SGEMP:I thot they are specifically reserved for workers only?!
How can this be?
And yeah, is it that the passengers can quote their destinations if they want to, when they board the bus kilang?
varies depending on the operator.Originally posted by Volvo Olympian:Usually the ''BAS Kilang'' uses what model? I heard is like a Merc .....
And most of them is NAC typeOriginally posted by SGEMP:varies depending on the operator.
some uses small minibuses
other uses old coaches-like buses
but one thing to take note of is that they all are blue in colour.
(FYI, M'sian school buses are yellow in colour, with wordings "BAS SEKOLAH" on its sides.)
yes...some r merz....Originally posted by Volvo Olympian:Usually the ''BAS Kilang'' uses what model? I heard is like a Merc .....
