speedlimiter got broken by SC... he cant wait to reach next traffic lightOriginally posted by buses_galore:I boarded sv171 last week during the afternoon and had a very enjoyable ride. The driver was driving so fast along Mandai road and it seemed that it was way exceeding 60kph altough the speedlimiter limits it to 60kph. Anyone has an explanation?
SBS Transit hardly speeds but for SMRT ... Certain Mercs and the bendies can speed fast well ....Originally posted by jetabt767400:I got a feeling that SMRT Benz and Scanias can go very fast. 187's Alexander bodied buses, and some Benz like TIB495M can go very fast.
I have experience in some Habits, like TIB1094E while it was on 61, and TIB1026C, TIB1083L and TIB1086D on 106. SBS Transit, sadly, no fast rides yet...
I have tried before twice. One is a Dennis (Rego no. TIB100Originally posted by finoq:aha, sv171 on Mandai road...I think that's usual
Have you tried the sv.852 (UK Lance) they always chiong also, especially on Lornie Road, Dunearn Road on off-peak hours (and not to mention chionging Red Lights)![]()

Well, you haven't heard about my two absolutely Fast and Furious trips on route 857...
Trip 1, some weekend night some time ago, on TIB 1179U cameoing on 857
(firstly, I would like to reassure you that this cameo really happened)
Much of that trip is now hazy in my memory now, but I still remember the scene: a Volgren bendy bus, full of passengers (mostly boarded the bus at Little India), speeding like there's no tommorow down Central Expressway. The speed limit alert buzzer kept buzzing (they seemed to have replaced the original one with the bus stopping "buzzer" on their old Japanese buses, now scrapped). I was likeall the way through. I believe that, at one point, we reached 80 Km/H, and we were rushing down the second and third lanes of the expressway from Toa Payoh through Ang Mo Kio.
Trip 2, Tuesday, 15082006, evening peak hour, an unknown Mercedes MB O405 Hispano
Yet another crazily fast trip down Central Expressway, which I suspect was by the same driver as above. You may think it may not be as crazy as the trip above, since this one was on a rigid bus (bus was still quite packed though), but once you factor in the fact that, at one point, we were in the second rightmost lane, and was as fast as an SUV in the rightmost lane, you know this one is even more insane.![]()
Both trips were in the direction towards Yishun.

I have been on a car before travelling on par with sv168(SBS926E) along SLE. The car speed was 80 - 85km/h. Isn't that fast?Originally posted by jetabt767400:Hmm, I do not question the cameo, but 80km/h, after some thoughts, I think it might not be possible.
Heehee, even with Toyota Crown taxi speeding at 80km/h (as it is, always), the car is about to be airborne, in condition that only one passenger is on board, and no luggage at rear boot.
A bus to reach 80km/h needs huge engine power, assuming 1179U uses 5 speed automatic gearbox, the power needed to drive the bus at 80km/h, 5th gear, at least 2800-3000rpm is needed!
For 0405G, IMO, 3000rpm, the engine would blow in less than a few minutes!
How do I ground my explanation? A MAN bus (care! different brand), of Transnational on the Johore Bahru to KL route, at 6th manual gear, and at 110km/h, it was running at 3100-3200rpm. And when I was on TIB1046U not long ago, the bus running at 59-60km/h, the engine rotation at 2200rpm, hence the Volgren, or any tempered/non-tempered public/non-public bus would not be able to reach 80km/h, unless the gearbox is changed.
Your views please. I am not questioning anyone, just discussing, please feel free...
I think I heard somewhere here that TIB 1179U had a Voith Diwa gearbox, but I'm not too sure.Originally posted by jetabt767400:Hmm, I do not question the cameo, but 80km/h, after some thoughts, I think it might not be possible.
