Hmm, I do feel the Hinos have a good potential to speed. On mornings last year, with some good driver I can reach Dunearn Sec Sch in less than 3 minutes, assuming all lights green and 3 pax on board. 157 normally won't chiong one. I have been rather regular for 157 and so far less than 25% chiong and 50% crawl.
'Crawlsters' include SBS 72 T/SBS 188 T and other WA Mercs. DM normally not so bad. DDs are the faster ones. -

After that, the stop at Catholic JC, ok, full load: no stop. Finally chiong onto PIE again, zoom under the Mt Pleasant Flyover; not to forget that Traffic Police with cameras are always there, and then up again, towards Adam Flyover, chiong down the slope; if all goes well and without the light, two minutes is gone. And at 65-70km/h true speed.
Along and after Eng Neo Flyover, the threshold of two and a half minutes is up, our friend with a DAF fully loaded has only half a minute to reach the finish line. Not to forget the speed camera; he thinks that the bus is not fast enough...
At the Chantek Flyover at the intersection with BKE, the DAF pulls some Gs as the bus zooms down the curve, jeopardising the passengers' safety, and maybe some babies on board would cry. Times up.
And when the bus reaches the slip road onto Jln Anak Bukit, the time is already thirty-sixty seconds past three minutes, and the driver loses the round, by the time some passengers would have formulated out what they want to write to the poor driver's company, SMRT... -

I just checked with my friend again and he said the 3 mins was during the express sector (from Steven Rd to the time where the bus kept to the right most lane along PIE)
(not sure if he is right this time)

and the time on your watch might not be the same as that ezylink reader.. -
