Unless a great number of route 855 buses go out of action for one reason or another again, there is no reason for SMRT to even think of putting it even on weekends - it terminates at end-on berths at both ends (although the end-on berths at Habourfront are quite comfortable with bendy buses), and the other reason, as you can see in the photographs, is the problem of kosong passengers even with four buses out of action - this usually means whatever replacement buses are packed from front door to rear. Speaking of which, how come there's only the driver and no one else on the bus? Surely there must be a few more...Originally posted by AntiDennisLance:That 855 bendy was a one-off cameo. I doubt they will put bendy's regularly on 855, not even as cameos.
I never did knew that the old route 160 had bendy buses - I did knew that it was cursed with the Hino RKs right up to around the time they were withdrawn, much like how it is cursed today with Nissan U31RCNs as route 980Originally posted by TIB1018B:Remembered along Sembawang/Upp Thomson Rd, service 171 was the first to have bendy buses (TIB838H) in Mar 1996. TIB838H then went to serve service 960 when it was introduced in July 1996.
Service 160 was then the next to have bendy buses when Tibs bought in more Bendies in 1997. Bendy buses was deployed on service 160 only on Sundays/Public Holidays PM Peak.
Bendies were withdrawn from the service when service 160 was renumbered to 980 in 1999. Checked with the Tibs and they claimed that there was a parking constraints at Lor 1 Geylang terminalHowever bendies were redeployed on service 980 once again in year 2000 much to my delight
Deployment also on Sundays/Public Holidays with cameos on weekdays once in a while.
Service 169 also started to have bendies too in year 2001, with many of them during the weekday peak hours.
I think I saw a MB O405G Hispano MKII bendy sometime around then too. I mentioned elsewhere around here that it was the last time I saw a bendy bus on route 171 - I think it was that time when they tried putting bendy buses on weekends on that route.Originally posted by manjieass:remembered seeing habit on svc171 in year 2004.. very very rare..

Scanias are the best buses.
Thats nice. at least i stand a chance to see Scania on 161 & 168 when they cameo! Btw BNDEP wont be lack of buses after the Scania left[/b]
Adui, such a unique bus how can miss? You think I never see the bus before?Originally posted by eX.A.K.R.:Wait later routes 39 and 168 end up using full fleet of Scanias![]()

Oh, and by the way, a test to confrim your suspicions if it was SBS 79A: did that bus have an additional, small-sized pod on it's roof at the rear? SBS 79A's distinctive feature is it's modified air-conditioner, which adds another pod to it's roof.
I don't think bendies were deployed on service 103 before. If I am not mistaken, services 812 and 856 were also the first batch to deploy bendies in 1997.Originally posted by off_service:TIBS did try to have bendies on 171 on weekends (just like 857) back ion 2004. However the trial seems to have failed and the bendies disappeared after a few weekends.
A few TIBS services were chosen to use Bendy buses back in 1996/7. After the introductory on 171, services like 82, 103, 851 (and 2 more) were the ones using the bendies. Service 960 was and is still the only service to debut as a full bendy fleet. The full bendy fleet ended in 2005 when regular rigid cameos are seen on 960 until today.
It went to service 960 after service 960 was introduced in July 1996. After which it became a perm on service 176 for several years. It was then transferred to serve service 172 when bendies were introduced to service 172 in 2003.Originally posted by eX.A.K.R.:As for TIB 838H, I thought it ended up on rote 176 after it ran on 171?
OK, OK, no insult, but then it's definitely SBS 79A liao - no other Scania bus I know has that pod...Originally posted by Scania:Adui, such a unique bus how can miss? You think I never see the bus before?

i tink u meant 172... 171 doesnt have perm or regular cameo bendys only once in a blue moon they haveOriginally posted by eX.A.K.R.:As for TIB 838H, I thought it ended up on rote 176 after it ran on 171?
Bendies on 855 will only make sense during the morning and evening peak hours. As you can see, 855 is not even at seating capacity during morning off peaks. You are right, they will not make sense on weekends. However, I have noticed many northbound trips late at night to be very crowded.Originally posted by eX.A.K.R.:Unless a great number of route 855 buses go out of action for one reason or another again, there is no reason for SMRT to even think of putting it even on weekends - it terminates at end-on berths at both ends (although the end-on berths at Habourfront are quite comfortable with bendy buses), and the other reason, as you can see in the photographs, is the problem of kosong passengers even with four buses out of action - this usually means whatever replacement buses are packed from front door to rear. The pod is an aircon right? And it's located at the back?Originally posted by eX.A.K.R.:OK, OK, no insult, but then it's definitely SBS 79A liao - no other Scania bus I know has that pod...
