[ST] Ez-link system down, passenger told to pay $2 bus fare

I boarded SMRT's bus service no. 852 recently. I found that its ez-link system was out of service.
The bus captain told me to put $2 into the box. Why $2, I asked?
"Company said so" he replied in Mandarin.
I would like SMRT/Transitlink to confirm its policy. If it's the case, please explain.

Poor bus driver. He just doing his job. Now he is in deep sh*t for wat he said. Dun think smrtbus will 'protect' him

There's never a standard rate of $2 payable fare needed, commuters only need to pay for the fare required to your destination...
Even so, the maximum fare doesn't reach $2 at all...
Should the EZ-Link system fails and can't link up, the bus shouldn't be in service at all... At most, the bus captain will need to display a "Cash Only" or "Pay Cash" sign on the windscreen...
Believe that you should raise the issue to SMRT for an explanation... -

Not actually surprised that this has happened, 852 has the record of one of the worst SMRT services, having frequency (actual - not timetabled) of up to 30mins, horrible attitude drivers who skip bus stops, and the "Driver cutting of nails while driving along lentor avenue incident", recklessly speeding along bt road and full fleet of horrorably maintained Lances.

This just proves that SMRT are just a bunch of profiteerers who don't care about anything except someone's bank account (no names here, but you know who she is
). Now, you even have to pay them for not doing mantainence. -
i'm juz wondering...u all people keep saying our government keeps increasing all the fares and stuffs...yet everything is so under service-orientated..u all juz keep complain about our government services...and u all blame it on "Pay And Pay"...what if the opposition parties starts ruling...and they starts rendering services like these...u think it will be better..~?

I don't even bothered to pay for cash if both the ezylink readers are down. Just walk to the back. Happened on NR3 TIB489. It is the bloody fault of the company to run a bus service with both the readers down!

I think the ez-link system should be better managed...sometimes tap reader also abit slow. -
