why does the steering wheel have to be turned so much

  its not safe to have a small steering wheel for bigger vehicles. there is a standard for different sizes of steering wheels to be used on different sizes of vehicle hull. to have a wider steering arc for bigger vehicles means the driver can better manupulate the turning and the effects will not be great per quarter turn. it also gives the driver room to correct the steer. Imagine at high speed and moving along the road you have the keep the steering wheel readl ststic to keep the vehicle moving in a true 180 degrees straight line.

  u played too much arcade games? yeah, actually, its more than 2 rounds.
  
  and the wheel doesnt turns 90 degree.
  
  if lets say half a round is all it takes to turn the vehicle wheels full lock..
  
  if travelling at fast speed, a very slight turn of the wheel may make the vehicle skid or even flip, in the case of small vehicles.
  
  and to turn so many rounds, lets say u are turning at tight angles.. a small change in the sterring wheel translate to a small change in the wheel turning.. more practical isnt it?

  at high speeds, u only need to turn the steering wheel abt 1/10 of a turn... to change lane.

  Haha.... Underwear wet.... Reminds me of my army days when I drove the 3-Tonner... (Now the new tonners have power-steering, auto-gear, air-con, etc etc. So good.)
