yes there is a leagl limit.
if the leagl limit is crossed then i guess no action is taken. but in singapore people stand far apart at rear of bus . in middle not really suqeeze (ppl need their space) but at front the squeeze occur.
in statistical sense, the bus cannot be overloaded over the legal limit because of poeple wanting their space. but stattically about 10 percent of buses really look over pax (over lgegla numbers)
the number of legal peeps carried on the bus is posted near the driver area. cna check it out.

Now I take 189 to school, and change to another bus. There are always many people who alight, and more will board at the bus stop below my block, but we always get to squeeze on, think about 102-105 percent full.
Last week, evening peak, on 1162S had a problem, pax refused to move back, and a few are enough to block the joint area, popularly known as 'basket', and others cannot move back.
Its not there are no bus, 517J was 'bunching', or doubling from behind. Its just pax refusing to move back. Move back, and more space can be created. Sit on your boyfriend, and more space again (not recommended).
Hence sometimes, no choice but to exceed the limit. -

u are asking a stupid question hor... the driver also need to see the mirror (on the left side) of the bus in case he wants to see the back of the road. if those ppl blocked the mirror, he cannot see what's behind and also had to ask passengers to move to the rear of the bus so that he can see the mirror.
