i prefer the shortest route... but 354 and 284 in terms of distance... 284 is shorter but in terms of fare stage same... hey feeders dun have fare stages but the ez-link machines have... o wells

Sv. 1 was withdrawn about 15 years ago and this number was never re-used. For me, I have seen and rode this bus before. Sv. 1 had a limited operating hours. It ran from 5:30 AM to 8:00 PM and didn't run on Sundays and Public Holidays. Its route started at Changi Village Terminal and followed Sv. 2 until Crawford St. From here, sv. 1 went on via Beach Rd, Connought Dr, Collyer Quay, Raffles Quay, Shenton Way, Cantonment Link, Cantonment Rd, Outram Rd, Tiong Bahru Rd, Zion Rd, River Valley Rd and finally terminate at Delta Fringe Car Park or Delta Terminal. The car park is located between Gan Eng Seng Sec Sch and the MOE Examinations Branch. It can still be seen today but its terminus (crew rest area cum office) was demolished a few years ago.
FYI, CSS also had a sv. 1 before. I'm not sure about its route details but it went through Orchard Rd and terminated at Marine Terrace. The Mercedes O309 minibus was used on this service and I hated taking this bus with my dad to go to my maternal grandmother's house; preferring instead, the Volvo B57 of sv. 16. My dad preferred the former because it was cheaper and to a certain extent, faster but it was always packed like sardines and very uncomfortable. -

For my point, I would always rally that service 989 is the lonest service in Singapore, ever in history, but sadly for history, its gone now. 51 stages in directional service, 101.5 stages in loop service mode.
It was my favourite service then.
Now, I would think that service 30 of SBST is the longest in terms of distance, terminus to terminus, and service 51 longest in terms of travel time.
For SMRT, the longest distance service is 858, this is in terms of distance from terminus to terminus (in this case, WDL to WDL). It should have 85 stages in loop. The longest travel time should be service 67. The most express service distance would go to 966.
These are just my own figures, you can refute them if you have better proof, anyway, I don't fare much good in advance stuff... -
In the past, when 51 terminated at Hougang South, 30 was longer as 30 had 45 fare stages & 51 had 44 fare stages. But now, 51 terminates at Hougang Central, and I think both are equally long (with 45 fare stages).
Svc 10 used to have 44 fare stages too, and 30, 51 and 10 used to be the "top 3" longest routes. But 10 was shortened to Kent Ridge and lost the "top 3" status. 30 & 51 also lost the "longest route status" thanks to Express services like 502 & 506 and SMRT services like 858 & 989. (I kinda miss the good old days when 502 went to Sengkang and 506 went to Changi Airport...)
Of course, in terms of travelling time, 51's "Top" status is undisputed.

Dun forget svc 14 which has 44 stages to clementi and 43 stages to bedok. It may be the longest time for the bus to go from bedok to clementi if there is a traffic jam in orchard rd.

i took 51 from hougang to jurong east b4. traumatising experience~
took me nearly 2 hrs!! i slept, woke up, slept, woke up again, n its only abt half the journey!

This history of longest service is fascinating. Well, sv. 10 was once the longest service in S'pore and I believe it held that record (for non-loop service) until 51 was extended to JE in the late 1990s. 51 originally had 22 stages only. It was extended on both ends to become its present route. From Eunos to Hougang, covering the route of sv. 54 (old), and later from Labrador to Jurong East, partially covering the route of 192 (old). -

Haha. I take 30 almost everyday (between NUS and my home in Bedok) and I would advice you to avoid peak hours. 30 is always crowded and ECP is always jammed during peak hours. haha.i took svc 30 during peak hours. very siok. I got an LO3X with very good pickup (i fell backwards when the bus accelerates ). Slow traffic along benjamin shears bridge but very nice view esp. when the bus is going up the bridge. see the city skyline. I reached at bedok at around 11pm and took svc17 home Travel time in svc30 for me is abt 2hrs. Morning peak not siok but pm peak is very fun (that is if you don't have anything to do)
