Weird Bus Sounds

  A DAF got the screeching sound while accelerating. Heard the noise while at WOodlands Reg Int.

  I think our chicken friend here need to understand what is happening inside the O405. You see, the MB gearbox is a unique bloke. It allows the gear to 'slip' and then 'locks-up'. So that's the jerk while the bus moves. Then, when braking, it has a 3-step retarder. The retarder helps the bus to stop and ease the burden on the brakes. So that's the jerk while the bus stops. With all the ZF and Voiths around the SBST O405 stands unique by havings its own gearbox.
  
  I rode on 315T which Mr. Chickadee here claimed to have bad jerkings. Maybe I'm more tolerant as I have survived in much worse buses before; for I find 315T to be normal. A bit harsh while shifting, yes, but otherwise its OK; and quite enjoyable too. Perhaps they have fixed the bus?

  You mean the rubber tyre skidding type of noise? Used to be quite normal during one time when all buses did that

  The windscreen wiper on SBS 0778R squeaks very loudly when it was activated. I remember once when I board this bus as a cameo for service 69, it was raining halfway through. But when the windscreen wiper was activated, it sqeaked so loudly that I couldn't even have a peaceful ride on the bus.
  
  Weather condition at that time was very bad, with a heavy downpour.

  Thanks for the timely explaination! Now I can understand better why the time-lag between gear changes is quite long in the 0405. It would be accelerate......then rpm suddenly stays constant for 1s before the jerk.

  You forgot about the "psst ; psst; psst psst" sound after the retarder had used the hydraulics/air to slow the bus and releases it back into the reservoir , thus producing the "psst psst" sound. You can also notice a "whrecnck..." sound if the BC brakes hard. The "psst psst" sound can also be noticed in ZF gearboxes, only softer than the MB gearbox.

  whoa 3736S... engine is rather quiet at first few gears and idle... but the engine sounds very fakely modified... orrrrrrrr sound at highest gear on 335 along jurong town hall road
