You can order this book online, but it's going to cost more than S$80, including freight charges.Originally posted by TIB1049L:Where can I get the book and how much is it? Mine is the really outdated Dennis Chan one![]()

You mean 9889 uses a body kit from Soon Chow?Originally posted by service_238:Read the Mike Davis Singapore Buses Part 2 on why 9889U is a PSV bodywork though its CDGE that builds the bus.
Soon Chow =/= PSV.Originally posted by iveco:You mean 9889 uses a body kit from Soon Chow?![]()

51st of the 'production' batch. SBS9888Y is not part of that batch.Originally posted by iveco:Anyway, there seems to be an error in the book. 9889 was the 52nd VSO that entered service in the SBS fleet. 9888 came in 1999 and 9800-49 in the subsequent 3 years.
Soon Chow I believe, has a relationship with PSV international, thats why you get them building buses based on PSV International's designs. The body on B9TLs are also partially designed by PSV International.Originally posted by iveco:You mean 9889 uses a body kit from Soon Chow?![]()
Manual transmission buses are also faster, although top end manual transmissions/semi-automatic like Opticruise (Scania) and iShift (Volvo) cost more than an average one like the ZF S6-85 synchromesh gearbox.Originally posted by SBS3688Y:spoke to a private coach driver recently. He told me manual transmission buses are more fuel saving than Auto ones. On average assume both buses travel at similar distances; manual ones use up say abt 200 litres of diesel. but auto ones consume abt 240 litres!
He said air brakes are dangerous too. He ever encountered air brake failure when circuit broke and was forced to use the handbrakes to pull the bus to a stop!
And for coaches going up mountains (eg Genting); it wear off the brake system and he even smelled sort of burning when the bus reached the top!
It's always the case as you have more control of your vehicle (of any kind) if you are driving manual. Auto transmission are controlled by a computer chip so it reacts accordingly to your driving style. Maybe technical experts can do more explanation and corrections to my post if needed.Originally posted by SBS3688Y:spoke to a private coach driver recently. And the book says HGDEP as Huangang depot .Originally posted by iveco:Didn't Soon Chow supply PSV body kits in the past?
Anyway, there seems to be an error in the book. 9889 was the 52nd VSO that entered service in the SBS fleet. 9888 came in 1999 and 9800-49 in the subsequent 3 years.
