SBS 507G also got a different soundOriginally posted by Scania:Its the retarder at work, the sound would be similar to a whistle.
I think that's because these services for example, 167 and 851 depend wholely on 1 depot. Taking 851 as an example,Originally posted by carbikebus:That some of SMRTB single depot services duty start/change @ Opposite Interchanges/Terminals especially during Weekends & PHs
Example
S172,Few blocks change shift @ Boon Lay instead of Choa Chu Kang
S167 & S851,Some change @ Bt Merah
507G is one of those Mercs with screwed up axles. Many of the CACs also sound as if their axle is spoilt.Originally posted by chickenlittle2:SBS 507G also got a different sound![]()

Service 852 was once from KJDEP also besides AMDEP , so seeing Hino on 852 that time is not that rare , even DAF on 852 before alsoOriginally posted by Oceane:Mostly services that have extra long routes and may have overcrowding during Sundays/PH would get buses starting off from the other end. As for 852, I've personally seen Hinos cameo 852 from KJDEP when it is wholely controlled by AMDEP.
Rego of Hino spotted on 852... Quite long time ago but I think it was TIB 0954 E.

Oops...Originally posted by Volvo Olympian:Service 852 was once from KJDEP also besides AMDEP , so seeing Hino on 852 that time is not that rare , even DAF on 852 before also
It was only few yrs ago when 852 was made to fully AMDEP.
Then why did 855 have DAFs in the past? I'm sure all YIS routes were AMDEP all along.Originally posted by Oceane:Oops...![]()
No wonder DAFs made up almost 60% of the fleet last time! Before the UK Lances came in.
I miss the DAFs...
No wonder the DAFs suddenly disappeared and got replaced by the UK Lances.
I ever seen Olympians with their central axle permanently twisted at an angle. And when they move, they tend to produce "bomp bomp" sounds and they are quite rough.Originally posted by Scania:507G is one of those Mercs with screwed up axles. Many of the CACs also sound as if their axle is spoilt.
I don't think 855 ever had DAF. 852 happened to terminate at BBINT which was under KJDEP so SMRT decide to split the fleet up?Originally posted by iveco:Then why did 855 have DAFs in the past? I'm sure all YIS routes were AMDEP all along.
852 had DAFs even during BNL era. 678 ever served on 855 back in 1996.Originally posted by Oceane:I don't think 855 ever had DAF. 852 happened to terminate at BBINT which was under KJDEP so SMRT decide to split the fleet up?

Ah shouldn't be any probelm, though if you are worried you can email to SBST.Originally posted by chickenlittle2:The sound is damm loud when you are sitting at the backWould it post any danger to the bus?
If I'm not wrong, DAFs were under AMDEP previously, before TIBS transferred all of them to KJDEP.Originally posted by Oceane:I don't think 855 ever had DAF. 852 happened to terminate at BBINT which was under KJDEP so SMRT decide to split the fleet up?
Hmmm ok... But TIB 0685 S? You meant TIB 0681 S or TIB 0685 G?Originally posted by off_service:If I'm not wrong, DAFs were under AMDEP previously, before TIBS transferred all of them to KJDEP.
I remembered 169 had them too (TIB 685 S and another one).
If I remembered, the change of depot control of 852 was around the time the UK Lances were introduced.Originally posted by ^tamago^:amdep used to have ELBO's have well, mainly running on 169, 851 and 853.
not very sure about DAF's, but the disappearance of DAF's on 852 is definitely due to transfer of full control of sv 852 to amdep sometime in 2003. any transfer of DAF to kjdep likely happened before that.
Might not be the case cos I remember this forum already existed.Originally posted by Oceane:If I remembered, the change of depot control of 852 was around the time the UK Lances were introduced.
I need to backtrack a little... Because I've not taken 852 for a few years already.Originally posted by ^tamago^:Might not be the case cos I remember this forum already existed.![]()
Yeah. I sometimes bo liao check archive also got see some about Svc. 852Originally posted by ^tamago^:Might not be the case cos I remember this forum already existed.![]()
It was TIBS then,Next year they tried to 852 & 925 to dual depot meaning AMDEP control majoity on 852 & KJDEP hold majority on 925 while WLDEP hold minorityOriginally posted by Oceane:I need to backtrack a little... Because I've not taken 852 for a few years already.
If I remembered in the past the fleet of 852 were made up of Malaysia UMWs + DAFs.
Then SMRT moved all the DAFs to KJDEP, but 852 were still having them as it was partially controlled under KJDEP.
Then the UK UMWs came in. At first they went on 853 and 855 (I think so) and soon SMRT removed the KJDEP control over 852 and replaced the missing DAFs with UK UMWs. These UK UMWs were all under AMDEP.
In fact, I think SMRT likes to shift one model to one depot... with the exception of MBs and Nissans. Too many liao.
AMDEPDennis Lances + Majority MB
WLDEPScania Striders/Elbos + Majority MB
KJDEPDAFs & Hinos + Minority MB
Yeah. I remember informing service_238 about the news many many years back, and he had commented about the death of DAF's on 852. And it should not be too long ago.Originally posted by TIB1049L:Yeah. I sometimes bo liao check archive also got see some about Svc. 852![]()
What was the original route of 852 then?Originally posted by ^tamago^:Yeah. I remember informing service_238 about the news many many years back, and he had commented about the death of DAF's on 852. And it should not be too long ago.
852's fleet was made to park at amdep instead of yidep in 2003. And they wanted to withdraw the service altogether in March 1996 before deciding to just cut short the route to Bt Batok following objections, because it is a peak-hour service. After that they considered extending 852 to Sembawang in 2001 to increase ridership but it never happened.
