You know the meaning of spare part? Why not buy 1 Scania Omnilink, 1 Neoplan Centroliner, 1 Citaro, 1 of everything! You get what I am implying to you?Originally posted by buses_galore:Wonder why SBS decided to place orders for the Volvo DD instead of the Denise TridentÂ…It is so powerful, it can accelerate so quickly and effortlesslyÂ….I think it is the fuel consumptionÂ…
Let me elaborate something for you as i'm an ex-HGDEP BC and have talked to several TO about the Tridents,Yes the Tridents is more powerful,Nice,Smooth but the spare parts order alone can take up to a month if breakdown let alone top overhaul,Furthermore Dennis/Cummins engines are not so popular with SBST Mechanics compared to Merc/Scania and Volvo.Originally posted by buses_galore:Wonder why SBS decided to place orders for the Volvo DD instead of the Denise TridentÂ…It is so powerful, it can accelerate so quickly and effortlesslyÂ….I think it is the fuel consumptionÂ…

Then why SMRT got so many Dennis Lance SDs?Originally posted by carbikebus:Let me elaborate something for you as i'm an ex-HGDEP BC and have talked to several TO about the Tridents,Yes the Tridents is more powerful,Nice,Smooth but the spare parts order alone can take up to a month if breakdown let alone top overhaul,Furthermore Dennis/Cummins engines are not so popular with SBST Mechanics compared to Merc/Scania and Volvo.
If I'm not wrong, KMB and CMB then were only allowed to buy buses from C'wealth countriesOriginally posted by iveco:Then why SMRT got so many Dennis Lance SDs?
Also HK got the most no of Tridents. Many early model Dennis DDs can be seen too. Maybe it is easier to get Dominator/Trident parts over there than in SG.
Still, HK has a wider variety of buses. They've got the MAN 24.310.Originally posted by sbst275:If I'm not wrong, KMB and CMB then were only allowed to buy buses from C'wealth countries
O305... 1 demo, 40 broughtOriginally posted by iveco:Still, HK has a wider variety of buses. They've got the MAN 24.310.
The 1st DD from non-c'wealth countries was the Merc O305. However, only 50 were bought. SBS(T) has at least 200.
Because they were excess stock and sold off at bargain-basement rates?Originally posted by iveco:Then why SMRT got so many Dennis Lance SDs?
I used to have 2 colleagues; one is named Dennis and the other Lance.Originally posted by TIB1018B:How about a lady called Denise in love with a guy called Lance ??

I once heard somewhere that the Malaysian Lances really were excess stock or something like that, and no one else wanted them until SMRT (then TIBS) came to the rescueOriginally posted by SBS9818A:Because they were excess stock and sold off at bargain-basement rates?
