Exhaust problems

Hi guys! Recently i saw and heard a LO3x (cant see rego) with a somewhat weird exhaust sound. It sounded like a tank or the Bionix APC. Some SMRT buses also have these exhaust pipe problem.
What is the problem actually? Spoilt exhaust pipes or silencer?

some of the the SMRT CAC and OAC scanias.. the pipe sound like stuck like tat..
the sound like shhhhhhhh like tat.. instead of woooooo..

Have U serve your NS already??? Of course i know how it sounds like. But only one of them at the carnival sounds like the mentioned LO3x, which sounds like "bbhhhhhwwwoooooorr"
Why arh? why sound like that one? Some CAC Scania ELBOs also very noisy, which sounds like "shhhhhhhh" when the engine runs at high rpm. -

From the descriptions, I don't think the sound actually came from the exhaust. A hissing or whining sound would more likely be the intercooler, as it sucks in air from outside to be mixed with the fuel.

its very obvious tat the sound is from the exhaust cos its so much louder.... -
Well, intercoolers make a very loud noise as well. A good example would be like those on the B10M Mk IV and the VSO. You mentioned the bus as a Scania L113 and it makes a 'sssshhh' kind of sound, which is exactly what the intercooler of the bus sounds like. The exhaust generally make a low rumbling noise or , in the case of a really 'rabak' one, short and loud 'popping' noises.

Intercooler is not merely a devise. It's something like a radiator.
For a turbo intercooler: When the exhaust propels the impeller to turn, it in turn rotates the turbine connected to it. When the turbine rotates, the air is sucked in faster thus improving the introduction of fresh air and expelling of exhaust fumes. When the air is sucked in, the air is too hot and thus hinders good combustion. Thus the hot air runs across a circulation of coolant in pipings/fins to reduce the temperature of the air. This helps to give better combustion even though with force fed air.
There're cheaper ways to make force fed air. SRAD (Suzuki Ram Air Direct) a very old way of using the air gushing through the air pipe when the motorcycle runs. The gushing air is forced through an air filter before feeding into the throttle body & into the engine. In this way, the air pipes facing the front whereby it collects the gushing air when the motorcycle is moving becomes a form of turbo. But because there's no hot air, the intercooler is not needed.
For a gearbox intercooler, coolant is circulated inside pipings/fins while gearbox ATF is outside the pipings/fins. In this way, the coolant which has an advantage of going to the radiator to dissipate heat collects the ATF heat and dissipates it at the radiator. -
