So nostalgic.... I used to take these MCWs as a kid... esp on svc 7.
Btw the first air-con DD in Hong Kong was actually a modified MCW 3x 11m. The air-con bus ran from 1987 to 1989, but the air-con was later removed as it was unreliable. -

a more advance version is one that show pictures n map of where u are along the route. think those in japan got. is use LCD screen to display the info to passenger. can show picture like tv set. can show ads. movie trailer one.
but Hk one i like is because it display boith chinese n english. it saved me from missing my stop to wong tai sin that day in Hk

MCW was not bought over but sold off piece by piece. In 1989, the Laird group, former owners of MCW, decided to sell their bus and rail divisions. There was no buyer for the complete group so each product was sold seperately. well the impression (yes impression0 i get is that in the late 80s these British bus industry big players suddenly lose gas and had to be sell out or buy outs by others to survive. (or in MCW case - no! survive)
so this Optare eat MCW up to survive.
