The Today Newspaper is distributed at 7.30 am every morning at Ang Mio Kio MRT, after collecting the papers, there will be big crowd of commuters at bus stop next to the MRT after 7.30 am. But there are very few buses arrived during 7.30 am to 7.45 am, the reason is that bus captains know how to avoid this by arriving at the bus stop before 7.30 am and this cause long wait for commuters as the buses suppose to arrive between 7.30 am to 7.45 am already gone with the wind!
To the Bus captains the advantages by arrive at the bus stop before peak hour fewer commuters and less works and can reach bus terminal before scheduled time which means more rest time before the next bus trip. Bus companies should give some incentive for bus captains to pick up more passengers.
Bus companies put a lot of buses during peak hours, but if the buses arriving at bus stop earlier than scheduled time that means these buses are most empty and resources is wasted.
Bus companies should collect statistics of buses arrived time at popular bus stops during peaks period (7.20 am to 7.45 am, 4.50 pm to 5.20 pm & 5.50 pm to 6.20 pm) so they will know how many buses are arriving at bus stop before scheduled time.
To provide a better quality of bus services, bus captains play a very importance role, LTA and bus companies should get bus captains actively involved to improve bus services.
timekeepers should be deployed to ensure punctuality (including arriving before scheduled time)
