Its a tender, not an auction. SMRT is not putting any buses under the hammer. They are inviting manufacturers to come forward with a deal for 66 new buses. The best deal will be awarded the contract. The tender has been closed but no one knows, except for the upper management of SMRT, who won the contract, or if a decision has even been reached for that matter. Are you aware that all new buses have to be Euro IV (or is it V?) compliant? So bad exhausts are out. UD has a wide range of products and they do have quality buses. They are also one of the first to be compliant with the new regulations. some of the new wheel chair buses are already seen spouting black smoke.
from what i experience on Euro 4 trucks in singapore, apparently, there is a filter just before the exhaust pipe. this filter traps poisonous particles. they accumalate in the filter and when it is full (about 60km of travel), a warning light will light up and the driver has to park the vehicle and press a button (DPD) which burns the poisonous particles (takes 20 mins0. hardly any smoke is emitted. this includes Isuzu and Hino trucks.
Nissan trucks dosent needs this burning/ combustion process, but it needs a diesel: urea ratio of 2:1 for fuel.
so i wonder what happens if buses have to stop for DPD? -
