They have the same engine, but with different turbo versions.Originally posted by SBS3625D:Not sure if the 0405 and the 0405G share the same engine, but if that's the case, the increase in gross weight as well as the addition of a turbo-charger may be factors behind the higher proportion of burning bendies, because of the increased strain on the engine.
hmm just to be clearer with your sentence , the increase in gross weight increases strain on the engine . The addition of turbocharger however , made the engine compartment hotter . If there isnt any adequate cooling system , the bus will be prone to overheating.Originally posted by SBS3625D:Not sure if the 0405 and the 0405G share the same engine, but if that's the case, the increase in gross weight as well as the addition of a turbo-charger may be factors behind the higher proportion of burning bendies, because of the increased strain on the engine.
There are also 4 Hispacold/Konvecta underfloor units in a bendy, and only 2 in a rigid. But if you use roof top units for bendies, they just need 2 rood top units and for a rigid, one is enough.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:hmm just to be clearer with your sentence , the increase in gross weight increases strain on the engine . That is the case for bendies that uses the same engine as rigids , with power output and other technical stuffs same . I cant say that for O.405Gs as i dont know much about them .
Haha ... Correct me if im wrong .![]()

Me thinks that ZF gears usually rev the engine higher for fast acceleration. For next bus to catch fire, I think it should be Voith geared. When I pass by Volgren bendys on 962, I can sometimes hear the engine revving up to high rpms.Originally posted by TIB1049L:I am making a guess that TIB1125A would be next soon. It has 2 vents at the rear and was found smoking when it left WRI in the morning today.
And do you notice that the buses burnt were actually ZF? Seems like Habit bodies aren't suitable for ZFs
Someone told me that the 1st batch Habits (ZF) weren't equipped with intercoolers , neither were the older bendies . Only the 1st batch Habits (voith) and 2nd batch Habits and Volgren bendies were equipped with the additional intercooler . The turbocharged engine , OM447hA produces only 900Nm whereas the Intercooled, Turbocharged engine , OM447hLA produces 1100Nm max .Originally posted by Raraken:Me thinks that ZF gears usually rev the engine higher for fast acceleration. Habits and Volgren bendys use a turbocharged, intercooled engine which is supposed to help the engine produce more power at the same temp. But me thinks that the intercoolers on these buses could be damaged or non-functionable.
I didnt notice that . But i only noticed that the Habits that caught fire were the first batch ZF Habits , which were only equipped with a turbocharger WITH NO intercooler* .Originally posted by TIB1049L:And do you notice that the buses burnt were actually ZF? in such cases, will there be any red warning lights on the dashboard? and are the drivers disciplined for can't be bothered attitude?Originally posted by carbikebus:........Investigation shows that the bus didn't have the minimum water level required at the radiator and coolant box.Cases of lazy SL![]()
That day, when 9214S overheat, BC say the temperature gauge was in the red zone and got warning light at the panel there. He also say the accelerator cannot press anymore.Originally posted by SBS3688Y:in such cases, will there be any red warning lights on the dashboard? and are the drivers disciplined for can't be bothered attitude?
Sekali on the dashboard we got see a smallhole . Then we realize it use to house the red indicator .Originally posted by stooper:Maybe SMRT, safety functions all never maintain properly so never work, like their speed limiters...![]()
DAF buses often have the "Maintenance" warning light lighted up on the driver panel.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:Sekali on the dashboard we got see a smallhole . Then we realize it use to house the red indicator .![]()
If its jammed at 120km/h I don;t mind, if its jammed at 0km/h, wow, I better get off first...Originally posted by tintinspartan:I don't believe SMRT had never took the effort to repair the speedometers as a couple of Nissan U31RCNs have jammed speedometers and thier warning lights removed! They do not have EZ link Readers. (Unless they have them Installed and that cost $$$ too)Originally posted by sBs_boy:Er.. based on the number of routes they now have, i dont think SBST can afford to lease their buses as well.. Unless SMRT dont mind some private companies like Chitson Transport, Woodlands Transport, Bedok Transport, AZ Bus, Tong Tar Transport, Comfort Bus etc etc etc..
Placement has nothing to do with it. I would say that it is the result of high revving at low speeds (ie 60km/h). An O.405G went up in flames for Travel West Midlands in the UK a few years ago.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:possible also . Another problem is the hot running turbocharged engine . The horizontal placement of the engine meant more space is permitted in the passenger compartment , however , the engine is placed inside a tight area , .I found this info from a website , but im not sure whether its true or not . Pardon me if that is not true .
Another reason for bendy buses overheating and catching fire is the tendency "for articulated buses to use the same engine as non-articulated buses; this leads to a slower speed and acceleration, due to an increase of weight. When used in cities with many slopes (e.g. Vancouver, B.C. or San Francisco, California) the vehicle is prone to overheating, leading to stalling in the milder case and a fully fledged fire in the worst case. ", according to wikipedia.
