just switch to neutral gear when going downhill
i believe SBS9846T (on S168 last time), the BC did this
Plus the gearbox's retarder .Originally posted by sbst275:It's dangerous man...
Must use engine brake when going downslope![]()
For SMRT O405, seen many times,Originally posted by kenn3th:i have a strange feeling that vo2x and the o405 can travel beyond >70km
Engine brake don't make a sound. You don't even have to step on the brakes to get the engine brake. Engine brake goes to work once you let go of the accelerator pedal. When you do that, the engine will slow down and this will in turn slow down the wheel. That is engine brake.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:Plus the gearbox's retarder .
Talk about engine brake , anyone realised that when the B9TLs starts to brake , the engine emits a loud humming sound ? It seems like engine brake sound to me .
yea, heard before, when the driver presses on the accelerator, you can hear the potential to move faster, then suddenly it will lose power and you can see the driver wack the bus again, but to get the same result over and over againOriginally posted by stooper:For SMRT O405, seen many times, but for SBST O405, almost all of them have speed limiter working. It's quite obvious when you take along expressway. You hear the engine wanting to rev higher but cannot rev like that.

Ah...yaya !! Its the exhaust brakes !! I got confused..Originally posted by The_Bus_Guide:What you hear on the B9TL is the exhaust brakes. Its purpose is the same as the retarder but it works differently. Basically, the exhaust gas is compressed inside the cylinder and the built in pressure helps to slow down the vehicle. But I'm not too sure about this, though.
The exhaust path from the engine is closed off in order for the exhaust gas to be compressed inside the cylinder and exhaust manifold. That 'psst' sound, I believe, is when the exhaust path is open again.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:Ah...yaya !! Its the exhaust brakes !! I got confused..
If u do notice , there's a slight "psst" sound after the "vrrrooom" sound is heard . Most likely its from the exhaust brakes . The Isuzu school buses ones are more obvious .
Icic ...Too bad i didnt get to see the Mercs and B57s in real life .Originally posted by The_Bus_Guide:The exhaust path from the engine is closed off in order for the exhaust gas to be compressed inside the cylinder and exhaust manifold. This type of braking is not new to SBS. Old models such as the Volvo B57 and the Mercedes OF1417 had them too. In a way, the B9 brings back sweet memories.
Speaking of Mercz, I miss BNDEP NAC O405s...Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:Icic ...Too bad i didnt get to see the Mercs and B57s in real life .![]()
