this afternoon i take a leyland olympian on 88, the bus overtook several buses on the TPE, including 1 VSO and 2 volvo olympian. some ppl on the bus commented the engine is loud n powerful

Some people also said that , when Volvo took over the production of Leyland buses , for example the LO3x , the buses weren't as powerful as before .
Btw , the bus is powered by Cummins ! Cummins rules !

Oh ya , today took SBS9161K on 25 When the bus gearbox lock up kicks in at first gear , it switches to gear 2 in 2 secs , as compared with abt 4secs for some VO3x . Then engine was like "humming" , pure torque ! Someone told me that the Cummins engine produces a whopping 1300Nm of torque !

Pure nonsense . Volvo took over LO , buses not powerful . Have you tried Volvo buses overseas ? They can be powerful if you want them to be. Yes, 9199C can run very fast but aircon just like other LOs is weak. -

I didnt mean that . I did mentioned that that's what people told me , i merely conveyed what they said here . I also didnt mean to say that Volvo buses are weak . What i meant is that , when Volvo took over the production of LO3x , the VO3x were a little less powerful (not counting the B9TL) . If VO3x's engine were really that powerful , maybe you can ask a mechanic or technician to tune the gearbox to that of the LO3x . Someone told me that VO3x 's engine cant handle the stress if its tune to that of LO3x . VO3x got a problem of weak aircon in the lower deck near the driver seat. Leyland buses are powerful indeed.
But volvo's double decks seem to have very good acceleration. They speed up quicker than the leyland ones. -

You cant compare the new B9TL with the LO3x . Unless you talking about the VO3x Batch 1, 2 , 3 .
LO3x have one problem during moving off , it has turbo lag . So when the bus first starts to move off , you may realise that the bus is actually "crawling" . But when the turbo kicks in , the bus zooms away . -

Actually each bus has its own characteristics, you may be a manufacturer who tries to produce each bus such that they are 100% similar, but they will never be. I suspect your (all who say LO3Xes have weak aircon) points are correct. Like other LO3Xes, SBS 9199C probably have weak air con. I saw this bus which had just left TPE at about 3+ without destos. I don't know whether there were any passengers on board the bus.
Still, I have yet to comment on the performance of LO3Xes on the expressway. -
SBST loves to lock up not only the top speed but the acceleration as well to prevent jerking(Pax fall) when moving off.Try 9045,Weal acceleration,Top speed sucks and the A/C just a point above Elbos.

Can't blame, their Volvo Olympians: AVs/3AVs with a mix of Volvo and Cummins engine + ZF and Voith gearboxes. While their S3Vs are just like our LO3xes...just that they don't have aircon, and the weight and steering of an Olympian is heavy.Originally posted by stooper:Those suck too...
