sometimes drivers may not realise we're bus fans. they may think we're snapping a picture with evil intention like posting on Stomp to complain about him etc etc.
It'd better to display a more friendly face and smile while photographing buses. in that way, its less likely the drivers feel threatened in some way or another.

Just a small sea apart in Korea, I have a bus driver who stopped his bus and stared angrily at me after I took a picture of his bus at the bus stop. He said something loudly but I don't know what he was talking about as I don't understand Korean. So I just smiled at him and walked off - observed him still stopping there for like another 5 mins before driving off lol.Originally posted by ZYX2005:depends.some do some dunt.

in japan Hokkaido the bus driversa re a curious lot.they slow down when u take their pic n when at night they let u snap 5 shots at them until u wave them off.
and for the drivers who do u spent time explining to them its ur hobby they give u that face or give u the take down ur name face.
but i have seen and snap at drivers who know they r driving a specia bus n wave or even do the V sign at m ypic. niceness. i got one guy who combed his hair nicely prior to my spot , slowed down n waved. hahhaha

Back home, most are just curious but generally friendly. Can't blame them as got quite a number who snap photos of them just to send to SBST to complain over some minor thing (stomp comes to mind), so they have a right to worry about their rice bowl. A friendly return smile and wave after taking photos sometimes help =D
On the other end of the spectrum, I have reported a certain SMRTB bus driver for being rude & having a general attitude problem before after outright accusing me of being a terrorist after I took a photo of his bus. My feeling is that while a bus driver has to be naturally cautious & vigilant in the light of current security threats, being aggressive without reason is a strict no-no. From what I know, he was suspended shortly after I made the complain (apparently got other compains against him too). Another case where a complain was nearly filed was when an "ah beng" driver (yes complete with dyed hair, shirt tucked out) stopped his chartered bus indiscrimately in a filter lane to confront & threaten for taking a photo of his bus. Interestingly he said something about SMRTB being a big corporation and is not to be messed upon, an absolute irony to his untidy appearance & his attitude!
Agree about the fact that most don't know that such an unusual hobby actually exists...my uncle was with SBST for some 20 years and it was only just before retirement that he saw me taking photo of him driving his bus and requested for a print of it as he had never ever saw peeps taking photo of him at work before! -

I've never met BCs scolding me while I'm taking photos of buses but some BCs posed at my camera, flash its headlight. Some just stare at me and drove off. I never care about what other people think about me when I was sitting at a bus stop/stand at the roadside taking photos of buses. I met some suspicious looking perdestrian, I just hold my camera tightly with both hands. I seldomly look at the BCs' reaction, especially when there are somemore buses queuing behind. Some just wave and smile at me, maybe they're giving signal of "hi" to me. Some BCs are funny but they seems to be quite friendly.

Of course, it boils down to the quality of the photograph which one is willing to settle for, but more often than not the photo would end up with too much front if taken on the same side as the bus stop or very flat if taken from the opposite side, unless one can bend light rays to defy physics at a 'good position'. -
I once took pictures of buses at the small pavement opposite the bus park at Pasir Ris Interchange (where the interchange is famous for attitude BCs). The BC of SBS 7304D posed himself when I was taking, while the BC from SBS 2729U (when it was without the TV as side desto) came down to ask me what I had been up to.
Some BCs are kind to slow down and let you have a picture of the bus. Some would signal hand signals at me (I don't know whether they are offensive), but I would normally put a thumbs up to show that I had taken one and the bus is ready to go. Whatever it is, BCs had occassionally scolded me in different scenarios (taking pictures of regos especially). There is some lesson learnt in this case. -

If you are referring to my picture of SBS 9197H, I mainly used my 10x Optical Zoom. I totally never use any digital zoom. According to a Tech magazine, digital zoom=high tech image ruiner.
