Hello guys . I just wanted to ask , how does the Mercedes Benz O405's suspension work ? Everytime when the bus began picking up alot of passengers , i will hear a hissing sound coming from the suspension itself .
Then when the bus is empty , there's also a hissing sound from it . Its like almost instantaneously , unlike the B9TL's suspension , which springs back up to adjust itself , also known as electronic controlled suspension . B9TL's suspension adjusting itself can be felt , but the O405's suspension can be quite hard to notice adjusting itself .
But how does the mercedes Benz O405 suspension work ? Anyone can enlighten me?

I dun know myself but I think it's known as 'kneeling down' the bus. Some B7RLEs in Sentosa have the feature of kneeling down. It's to help passengers to climb aboard the bus, I think.

Like I said, it's just a guess. I once saw a Volvo B7RLE letting off air when at rest and the bus tilted to the pavement a bit. The B9TLs and B10BLEs may have had this function, but most BCs didn't realise it.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:Mercedes Benz O405 got kneeling function ? -

They have airbag suspension, like all modern citybuses from about the 90s. It is a rubber oval shaped, tubular object which sita between two metal plates, and the shock absorbers. What the hissing sound would be is just air escaping the air-bag, especially caused by the weight of people stepping on and off the bus. You will find on buses there are 3 air reservoirs. front and rear for the brakes, and an auxiliary reservoir for the doors, suspension, maxi-brake (hand brake), and other uses.
