If you notice , the LO3x crawls like snail at first , but when the turbo kicks in , the bus zooms away , similar to the Lances , altho the Lance zooms off at second gear in contrast with first gear for LO3x. -
What I can say pertaining to this topic is that, if you listen to the engine carefully, the bus engines sound do not sound similar for different types of buses for example TIBS Habits and 0405.
Within these two same types of buses, TIBS 729P and TIBS 735X, both these two buses sound different during the second gear when the speed is around 15-30 km/h -
1194A(Voith) sounded lyk a habit(ZF, 1063U to 115x series) when it goes to third gear. did it hav a gearbox change or wad? how come when i took a cameo 187 and it chiong on BKE a month ago it seemed to hav a 4th gear when Voith only hav 3 gears!

No lah joking lah . But i dont rule out the possibility either , if SMRT is willing to pay more for a different gearbox. -
Yeah, that's why I think older buses are more interesting. Like many individual LO3x have different sounds. Newer buses like B9TL still new, little wear and tear so all the B9s look the same to me. After taking more than 2 years of 198 daily, I still can't recall all the B9s.
