Out of curiosity, I called the Translink enquiry line 1800-225-5663 it seems the undermentioned fact is absolutely true. They charge one fullfare + 63cents for second deduction if flashed at the front entrance door, but willing to refund if complaint is lodged at the above tele' number within 5 working days, regretably who is so free to go through the process, so it's better to avoid such a catch. Maybe we should let more people be aware of the above misleading above transaction...............
Helpful tips for those use EZ Link card.
To those who always use ez card. Like to bring to your attention on local bus service provider.
Normally, when you board the bus, you flash your ezlink card and move in and when you get down the bus, you flash your card again at the exit door (located at the middle of the bus). We all know that if we forget to flash the card, full fare will be deducted from the card.
Below is something not known to public:-
But if you alight from the front door (the entrance) and you flash your card while exiting without informing the bus driver, the card will capture another entrance fare instead of exit fare thus meaning that two full fares will be deducted from the card as no exit was being captured for the two entrances.
For example, you board a crowded bus at Pasir Ris (where it terminates at Jurong East) and decided to get down ten stops later. If you flash your card at the front door without informing the bus-driver, a second entrance fare will be captured instead of exit fare thus you are paying for two full fares ( 2 X $ 1.90! = $ 3.8 0 ) instead of one fare (approximately $0.83).
This is a useful info. Here's the solution:-
Go to the "big" machine (ie machine for U to top up the card) located at the MRT stations.
1) Insert your EZ link card
2) Press the function key "Check card"
3) Press "more"
The above function will show U the last 20 transactions. Information onthe fare deducted, bus no, boarding time and the boarding and alighting point will be reflected on the screen.
Hope the above information is useful to U.
Last but not least, call the hotline line: 1800 767 4333 when the incorrect fares are deducted. -

the ezlink card system is a good card, but its once again nowhere near being world class.
1. we must be one of the few (or only) in the world to make people return their single trip tickets to the machine when exiting fare gates. delhi metro and taipei metro uses tokens that must die die be inserted before you exit, and they use the same variety of gates that are supplied to the north east line. they know how to waste people's time in that after exiting the fare gates, they must either waste time queuing to return their cards at busy stations, or waste money when they forget or dont want to return. oh yah in case people dont know the delhi and taipei tokens are contactless upon entry and have to inserted when exiting.
2. we have a 5 dollar non refundable deposit. that means we pay so as to qualify to use public transport. once again, taipei and hk dont have that policy even though they use contactless card systems. is it that the taipei-ites and hongkongers dont like to hog multiple cards so there is no risk of redundant cards hence no need to levy the charge or just that ezlink is being spastic. we must once again be one of the few or the only in the world to have such a bad policy.
and because the ezlink company seems to know how to give the best excuses and because we cant do anything about it without protesting and being charged in court we have to accept it.
there can be excuses to anything, so it does not mean they have an excuse means they have the right.
unless my way of thought is above is flawed that is. please correct me.

Then what does the "entrance/exit" mean in the ez-link inside every bus?
I always take it to mean that if I already scanned the card when I up the bus, that is naturally counted as entrance and then I scanned again, it's considered exit.
I do alight from the front a few times and I always beo the "entrance/exit" thing in the reader before I scanned. I trust the captain to know lah, but now errr.....

I was deducted twice for exiting at the entrance.
minus 0.90 instead of 0.45 -

Anyway, these days entrance is usually "Entry/ Exit" mode unless you itchy hand go tap it when bus is moving -

Yeah, from what I see, at first it will show the (-) restricted sign. Then when near the bus stop, the entrance reader will show Entrance/Exit. Door opens and people alight. But after the front door closes. Cause my workplace is relatively near, i usually exit from the front. And i don't check whether its entry/exit, or just entry.

Hmm, last time I got try is tap on the front when entry, and exit over 20 stages and tap on the front, saw 'New Entry' on the screen. This means I have got deducted full fare, but 0.65 cause the bus terminates at Bukit Batok, a few bus stops down.
So I guess it works like that... -
i often see ppl tapping at the exit only to be sounded with 5 fast beeps.. then BC ask the passenger to alight at the front and tapping the card at the front reader..
if passenger did not tap when boarding, isnt he/she paying full fare for tapping at the front when alighting???

but for me, never had such an issue. if u wan fast taps, use the card exposed.

If you want to ensure that the correct fare is deducted, make sure the EZ link reader at the front states "entry/EXIT" before tapping on it.
