VOICES : The rush, the crush ... nobody seems to care
Slow bus arrivals create havoc at Jurong East MRT
Letter from Trina Foo
I wish to highlight the human congestion at the Jurong East MRT station pick-up point. My office is at the International Business Park (IBP) in Jurong and I take the feeder bus from that MRT station to get to work.
This is a common pick-up point for several companies that have offices in the area. My colleagues are served by the same bus company.
When our bus arrives each morning, there is a mad rush to board the bus. There is no proper queue and the only way to board is by pushing your way through the crowd.
The situation is worse on rainy days or when there is a traffic jam.
My concern is that if this situation continues, an accident is bound to occur. Some working mothers and pregnant women are also forced to squeeze and push through the crowd to board the bus.
My colleagues and I have been almost pushed to the ground on several occasions, so just imagine if the same thing happens to these women?
During the rush to board the bus, a male colleague was even accused of molest by a lady, which he denied.
He now walks to the office to avoid such incidents.
I sent feedback to the bus service provider and JTC Corporation (who handles the feeder bus service tender) about my concerns but nothing has been done.
I asked for a proper queue system at the pick-up point so that passengers can board on a first-come-first-served basis, but the reply was that SMRT would not allow it.
I then asked for the frequency of the bus service to be increased during the peak hour between 8am and 9am but again my request fell on deaf ears.
The bus provider has promised that a bus will arrive every three minutes as stated in their contract with JTC. The bus arrives only once every 10 minutes.
This is why everyone starts pushing to board the bus when it arrives.
I would hope the authorities can help us enjoy a smoother way of getting to work.

Seriously speaking I think it's like bo zeng hu and no proper physical queueing facilities installed both that causes itOriginally posted by 201911:IMO the ones causing the squeeze are the pax themselves, if everyone don't rush to board the bus will there still be pushing? look at urself, dont be too quick to blame others.
The Private bus company lor,Then why SMRT have to bear responsible?Just because they disapprove? If someone have to use your house just for someone else's sake do you totally agree? In Singapore M.Y.O.B is the best thing. The private bus companies had to apply to LTA for alighting @ JE int is more appropriate just like what Bedok Tpt did @ PSR int for Tekong shuttle.Sometimes those complain kings & queens words are beyond imagine.Actions speak louder than words.PeriodOriginally posted by sbst275:It only goes very bad...
Just because JTC dun give contract to SMRT, that means nothing done to ensure safety...
You can say flaming or whatever you like... But if anything happens to those pregnant woman, who is going to be responsible?
