anyway i'm living in BP. From the last fare increment till now, there's not much increase of bus service standards (more nissan UDs on 975, less bendies on 960, longer waiting time)..and they wanted to up the fares?
fUck them!
hope they will collapse soon.
(i wonder if their mailbox is already flooded with complaints and not compliments)

I am not cynical about the smrt hike but seriously what grounds do they based their claims on?Not enough profits?petrol hike?
I am really apathetic about the hikes...i have gven up hope...no matter how much i will pay. -

DId you all know that everytime oil prices increase by a dollar, SMRT profitability goes down by 0.8million? So to offset this cost, a fare increase is necessary. -

The companies cannot always use raw materials and higher staff cost as excuses of fare hikes. Oil prices are fluctuating all the time. It can be very high one day while it can be low the other day. I have noticed that there are more frequent fare hikes in this decade alone than the previous decade. Why is it so? Increase in raw materials and higher staff cost? Or is it because of GST hike? It is very hard for me to rmb the prices now for the various number of fare stges travelled. -

Like what MS_ said previously, both SBST and SMRT are private companies and they have the right to raise fares, to whichever extent, as and when they want on the basis that they want to increase profits. Its a combination of all 3 factors plus inflation. If these companies dont increase their fares, it would be difficult for them to be sustainable. I am no IT expert. If anyone is serious enough to deal with this
unreasonable increase. please help all this poor citizen of singapore
by creating a internet petition (like the one whcih gunned down T.T Durai)
to let the commuters sign and let the authorities hear the grievances.

TT Durai's case, the petition was only a little effect. He was guilty, so a petition only adds fuel to the fire. -

and increased cost(assuming its so and not just certain aspects with overall decrease in cost) is not a good enough reason for price increase. In business its the cost AND the revenue. and they appear to be increasing profits by ridiculous amounts every year........ -

Inflation does affect the decision of the company to increase fares. $1 today is not worth $1 in 5 years. If the company hadnt proposed fare hikes, its unlikely SMRT will be recording such profits in the first place. -

Still can announce 39% profit... I tell u, it's all profits... Not enough, the most dun go maintain the buses... Spending $3000 on a EDS plate and dun even wanna maintain it... Might as well spend $30 on a normal desto
