Public Transport Council or PTC be close down?

  Public Transport Council seems to be useless in is task to stop SMRT or SBS from increasing is fares.
  
  People have being complaining again and again but nothing is done.
  Why should people pay taxes to support such an useless department?

  the PTC is there to ensure the best interest of SMRT and SBS are protected. acts as some sort of go-between.

  They need a wayang department if not the people sure angry. At least here they can pretend to pacify the consumers by pretending to consider whether the hike is ''valid''.

  you have got PTC job scope wrong. it's not to stop fare increase but to justify the increament. and yes. it's a useless department made up of a committee of elites who knew nothing about transport fares

  PTC seem to be very keen to improve bus service standard..... but will bus service standard become an excuse for the bus company to increase price?
  
  There is 2 type of commuter... one that go for service and there are some who go for buget. So had PTC taken into account of people who go for buget and they just dont need super standard.... just the basic......?

  LTA regulates the public transport operators while PTC plays the figurehead role. Pretty much like the relationship between the PM and President.
  
  PTC's role becomes in the spotlight during fare increase time where they try to "understand" operators' reasons for begging for money, and justify to the public why PTOs should be given fare increase despite increasing earnings, revenue and profit.
  
  IMO, LTA should be the rightful party to regulate the transport companies as public transport falls under land transport purview.

  It looks more like a Chain of Command to me. Only when big decisions are to be made, e.g. building of train lines, LTA will come into picture. If not PTC will do a job.
  
  Just like a relationship between a OC, S3 and or CO.

  Better still , so that no more stupid rules for the bus drivers & passengers , less conflict! More people will want to drive public buses.
