There is actually buses from Braddell Rd to connect pple to most of the places that 88 serves already.Originally posted by tanjun:I delibrately let 49 run to Old Airport Rd to grab more passengers for the demand.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Regarding the above problem of insufficient number of bus routes plying Lor 8 Toa Payoh which causes a high demand, hopefully, this new rerouted service 88 can help out with 238.
Benefits:
1. Help to alleviate 238 demand from Lor 8 Toa Payoh to Toa Payoh Int.
2. Provides a direct link from Lor 8 Toa Payoh to Bishan and AMK MRT.
3. Provides a direct link from Lor 8 Toa Payoh to more schools in Bishan and AMK area like Catholic High, Ang Mo Kio Sec, Da Qiao Pr Sch, Raffles Institution.
Disadvantages
1. 1 more fare stage means it will take longer from TP to other places outside TP.

So far, if I don't rmb wrongly, when service 88 was first introduced, dds were already deployed onto this service not long after that. This means that even it duplicates service 13 from Bishan to AMK, 159 from AMK to Hougang, there is demand for the service.Originally posted by tvcnq:There is actually buses from Braddell Rd to connect pple to most of the places that 88 serves already.
To Bishan, there is 13, which duplicates the 88 route to AMK.
To AMK/part of Hougang, there is 159.
To Hougang Central there is 153.
The part after after Hougang has no other services, but then the journey form tp to there is at least 50 mins and ppl will choose other means to get there.
Actually I believe trunk services shouldnt ply Lor 8 on its way out of tp. It's simply too out of the way. Lor 6 maybe, but plying lor 8 leaves out a huge part of the tp population, unless u r talking about lor 1->lor 4-> lor 6->tp east->lor 8. Moreover, lor 8 is a narrow road and is not very easy for buses to manoevre, especially DD ones. Similarly, lor 5 has a hump and shouldnt get trunk services too.
u don't need worry... both SMRT nightrider and SBST nite owl are flat fare. for SMRT is $3 regardless of ez-link card or cash, but you get a free transfer if the transfer is done withing 45 mins of alighting from ur previous service. for SBST is $2.50 for ez-link card and $3 for cash. no free transfer though.Originally posted by patdog112:omg.... the routes are long i wonder how many fare stages are there
Perhaps I should make myself clearer. I meant that there is no need to get 88 to ply lor 8 as there are already services along braddell rd, quite close to lor 8, to go to the places. People in central toa payoh only has 88 to connect them to the part that duplicates 13 and as far as I know, the demand is quite high. Sorry if I wasnt clear enough.Originally posted by tanjun:So far, if I don't rmb wrongly, when service 88 was first introduced, dds were already deployed onto this service not long after that. It's ok. No problem. The discussion is quite enjoyable rather for me to know that actually what I strongly feel that is beneficial may not be appliacable to the rest.Originally posted by tvcnq:Perhaps I should make myself clearer. I suppose your question is directed at me.Originally posted by tanjun:It's ok. No problem. The discussion is quite enjoyable rather for me to know that actually what I strongly feel that is beneficial may not be appliacable to the rest.
Can any 238 regulars tell me the hotspots for 238? Is it the industrial estate at Toa Payoh that gives rise to this high demand?
Cos if the residential estates are the ones that provide the demand for this service,
suppose if I am living at Lor 8 Toa Payoh, I will seriously like to have a Trunk service plying at Lor 8 especially if I am living at around Blk 13 Lor 8 Toa Payoh.
From Pasir Ris St 51 there to tam ave 9 area also. Take bus have to take 359 change 39 or 81 etc then change to 29 or 293 but it will be much faster to walk abit insteadOriginally posted by tanjun:I will need at least two transfers to get to most places. I just find it very troublesome for the residents.
Originally posted by tanjun:Actually its a matter of getting used to it. I walk to Jln Toa Payoh sometimes to take 966 26 or 31. I take 238 to Stadium to change 59. As for northbound, my preferred service is 13 over 159/88. West side I change twice - once at Int, once at trellis.
lol. Just a clarification, I don't have the intention to direct the above qn to you. By the way, thanks for sharing the hotspots of service 238 as I seldom take this service.
As you have said, I have noticed that [b]most of the hotspots are near residential houses, I just find it absurd that if I live at Blk 13 and is going to a sec sch like Catholic High located in the neighbouring town Bishan, either I can take 238, MRT to Bishan and 410 or walk a bit of distance to Lor 6 Toa Payoh and take 57 to Bishan Rd, and transfer to 88.

Yup. Agree with you on this. Different people living at different places will already have different lifestyles.Originally posted by service_238:Actually its a matter of getting used to it. catholic high simply take 13 from braddell Rd - easier than your mentioned routes.
you are right, the hotspots mostly come from the residential areas. The workers along the route mainly alight/board at Blk 227. If you see alot of people getting onto 238 between 0745 and 0845hrs at TPY, most of them are heading to that bus stop. As for going home they mix with the go-home crowd and that happens between 1715-1845hrs.

Does anyone have any idea of the demand of commuters around Pasir Ris St 51 or the demand of 359?Originally posted by SBS9889U:From Pasir Ris St 51 there to tam ave 9 area also.
