The Volvo B57s were also pretty powerful...can't miss them wif thier unique front, the black squarish grille and diagonal Volvo symbol...not to mention they had a raised roof @ the top and behind...behind u wld usually see the small SBS symbol
I remember sum of the Mercedes-Benz OF1417s also had NZ bodywrk similar to the Volvo B57s instead of thier usual Hawke bodywrk...but instead of the diagonal Vovlo symbol it wld be a large silver Mercedes-Benz 3-pnt symbol on the front engine grille... -

Albion Viking soon chow buses had super noisy engine sounds tat can be very frightening at times, can't stand those noisy buses when I was a kid. If I am not wrong, Albion Vikings were mainly serving on Bt Batok, Bt Panjang, CCK, Buona Vista, Bt Merah, Hougang and majority of the east bound SBS services, which is now mainly covered by Volvo buses. Anyone knows wat happened to the old Mercedes benz 811D? According to this website, they were bought in 1993, the same yr as the Mk3 i think, but how come they have been scrapped/sold overseas/put on display/whatever?

There were 2 versions of the NZMB bodywork on the B57. The 1st version had a raised canopy and flat roof. The 2nd version had a curved roof and its windsrceen is slightly shallower to fit the desto wihout raising the canopy. This was the type which was also fitted on the 1417. It was impossible to tell which was which if you saw one approaching with all its badges missing; which was very common as the buses near retirement. When new, the rear was used to display the service number. I rem everytime u saw the MB0305 DDs come 2 a halt @ a traffic light, u cld see the bus see-saw in suspension
Albion Vikings i rem were freaking noisy...if i'm not wrong they were manual transmission?
The Vikings were a noisy lot but they were tough and durable. All used manual transmission at first but some had auto gearboxes fitted later on. I guess this was a relief for the drivers because of the rather unusual shape of the Viking gear stick, which extended from the rear of the engine and curves over the cover, and the considerable amount of grunt required to put it into gear. -
