Senior Citizens' Concession

  Our MM is the living example of a person being able work till 80++.
  
  Since our govt is going to raise the official retirement age for locals from 55 to 60, gradually to 62 and up to 67 or even 70, should the public transport companies also raise the Senior Citizens travel concession to match the nation's official retirement age too?
  
  By raising the Senior Citizens' concession entitlement, it can further help to encourage more of our elders to continue working and earn their own income to meet their daily expenses. Also, by reducing the amount of concessions, it is hoped that transport companies would not increase the fares further for adult fare paying pax who are currently cross-subsidising for child/student/senior citizens. There are also plenty of working adults who are paying full fare but earning low wages and need to support their families and children.

  I rmb that there is sumthing about transport grants if fares start to go up again to those needy to subsidise their public transport costs.

  this one is like $50 for the entire household, and subjected to an income ceiling.
  
  so 1 family with 5 members still get $50 only..

  lately, several people are complaining in the ST Forum page about the 2cents fare increase for senior citizens.
  
  our govt has already said life is no longer like before and we cant afford to retire at 55-60. instead they are targeting official retirement at 67 or even 70. so why are these people still whining???
  
  be grateful that the age limit to entitle for senior citizens concession has yet to be raised!

  they are already taking reduced pay from 55, i don't think they shld be given the burden of a full adult fare.

  ya; got poor old folks AND there are also plenty of elderly who are loaded with $$$ and yet receiving concessions le. my suggestion is to raise senior citizen concession age entitlement in line with govt policies but also rendering help to those who are really in need (those 60yrs and above); just like the public transport fund. furthermore, most senior citizens got kids who are grown up and working and contributing allowances to them. they can start withdraw their CPF to cushion their costs of living but at the same time work at reduced pay to kill time and earn some money. their desire for money is still not as great as working adults with families.
  
  in time to come, the ratio of working adult to elderly will increase significantly due to aging population. With the need to subsidise for child/student/senior citizens, be expected to foot a much higher adult fare to cross-subsidise them. and what about working adults with low salary and struggle to feed their kids and pay their HDB installments, daily expenses? the public transport fund is not enough to cover their travel burdens.
