Bus services that have parallel (or duplicate) routes

  Services:
  
  a) 5, Express 518. Both ply from Thomson Road to Scotts Road together.
  b) 14, Townlink 222. Both ply right from Bedok Interchange up till Upper Changi Road, then one goes left, the other goes right.
  c) 18, 69, 168. Ply the common route right from the junction of Tampines Avenue 1, go along Bedok Reservior up till Bedok Interchange.
  d) 28, 67. Both start from the junction of Tampines Avenue 1 (before SAFRA Tampines and PIE) right up till Kallang that area.
  e) 27, 34. Both start from the junction of Tampines Avenue 4 and ply right up till Changi Airport's PTB 1 and 2.
  f) 2, 12. Both ply all the way from Upper Changi Road till Chinatown, if I'm not wrong.
  g) 80, 145. Both ply somewhere near Vivocity up till Lavander MRT Station.

  Sorry, my oversight, but I know that both Service 5 and Express 518 ply on the same road - Scotts Road.

  Service 161 and 168, from WRI to TPE...
  Service 171 and 700/700A from Dunearn Rd (SCGS) till Bras Basah Rd

  In the past sv 371 was parallel with sv 163 along Sengkang until withdrawn in 2004.

  Yup. 2 follows the MRT from Tanah Merah onwards.
  
  However, after Tanah Merah, 12 turns into Bedok South Ave 3 and passes by Temasek Junior College, followed by East Coast Rd and Mountbatten Rd.

  Svc 185 & Svc 157 & Svc 99 & Express 502 & Svc 198- Along the whole stretch bet JE to JW st 41..
  
  Especially Svc 99 and Express 502.. When Express 502 use the route to Orchand via Clementi Ave 6..
  
  Svc 242 & Svc 99- Exactly same route starting from Jln Boon Lay..
  
  Svc 174 & Svc 157- After this service meets together at Bukit Batok West and all the way to Bukit Timah Rd

  people
  
  1) last time bus route designed to parell each other so as to provide better choices to commuters. US
  
  2) some bus route no choice have to parallel other bus route because the area only that main trunk road running.
  
  3) it is common anywhere in he world to have paraell bus route. how would like it if only one bus route run on that road then u have to transfer again at end of road?
  
  4) the way bus routes run around they have no choice but to run alongside another one because they serve diff area further up the route.
  
  5) with the incentive to attract more people to ride transport we SHOULD have even more parallel routes so as to provide more chocies to go from A to b. basically make more routes that have same express n fast styles as other bus services already running.
  
  example say NEW Sembawang to Pasir ris . then best to copy the 969 route usse TPE to tampines. then go PSR. deviate at the TPE exit. these type of route like 969 are called backbone services (my own name) . they set the trend of how u run fast between point A n B.
  
  one example is how 965 first came out as backbone then 85 become use the backbone..
  
  6) therefore this thread is rubbish
