Solution to solve 'ultra-long' Q at Boon Lay Int/NTU Bus Stops during AM/PM Peak???[/b]
I quite agree with this statement.Originally posted by ^tamago^:a limited-stops point-to-point service is not feasible for feeder services like this when there are ppl who need to alight along the way.
Hahaha... With the exception of Bt Panjang feeder services...Originally posted by sbst275:I'm not joking abt this, take a look at all feeder svs...
Like 261, 1st bus is 0510, last bus is 0100
Or 315, 0530 to 0030
There is a downroute svc 242 that start frm JW ave 5 every morning in the weekdays.. More importantly, other passengers who are alighting can choose to take another duplicate service like service 99 or a normal 242.. Please understand how bad for the communter staying in JW st 91 got to travel for 25-35mins to the interchange.Originally posted by toll123:I quite agree with this statement.
Imagine there's really a service 242A that stops only at Jurong West St 91, how will you feel if you are a regular 242 commuters and living in Jurong West St 72?
Hmm....... Then maybe 242 can split into 2 separate feeder services? Maybe 242 can be amended to ply Jurong West St 63 and Pioneer Rd North before entering St 91 while anothjer new feeder service, let's say, 241, can be introduce to serve passengers in the St 72, ave 5 area?Originally posted by chickenlittle2:There is a downroute svc 242 that start frm JW ave 5 every morning in the weekdays.. Actually they can also work out service 242A like that..Originally posted by toll123:Hmm....... Then maybe 242 can split into 2 separate feeder services? So sad... I don't think I have time to spot it at all...Originally posted by service_238:Our 179 correspondent stooper will have another round of updating. good luck
Yeah...Originally posted by toll123:personally i dun see the need for AM peak's 179A to return to Boon Lay int as
1) it serves no purpose since it plys express along Jurong West St 63 and Pioneer Road North
2) I dun think there are many ppl who travelled from NTU to Boon Lay int during early in the morning.......
hope for Alternate route along non stop express sector like 502 . then BC can use any route he wants to get there .Originally posted by stooper:Sorry, for posting consecutive posts, but I think 179A won't solve the problem.
The main problem is the extremely uneven passenger loading, traffic lights and different BC driving styles.
I believe the uneven passenger loading might be worse when 179A is implemented.
People might wait to take 179A instead of normal 179 as they would be led to believe 179A is faster.
So 179 end up very little people, 179A full to door, delaying all 179A buses, making 179A slower than 179.
Also got different BC driving styles, took 7200U to BNL on Wednesday during PM peak. He was a young Standby BC. He managed to overtake the bus in front of him.
When he stop at the 2nd (middle) bus stop of JW St63, that 1 bus overtake him back, and 4 other 179 buses chiong pass without stopping at the bus stop and overtake him. Then he shocked, suddenly talk to himself "Whoa! Five!"![]()
Maybe they should make that just the NEW svc 242, because the area along Jalan Bahar is already served well by other services like 157, 199. And usually people take 242 is to go all the way in, not to stop along Jalan Bahar.Originally posted by chickenlittle2:Actually they can also work out service 242A like that..
Boon Lay Int --> Jurong West St 64 --> Jurong West Ave 4 --> Jurong West St 72 --> Jurong West Ave 5 --> Jurong West St 91/92 --> Jurong West Ave 5 --> Jurong West St 72 --> Jurong West Ave 4 --> Jurong West St 64 --- > Boon Lay Int -->
This would cut down the travelling time by 4-8 mins? Most importantly, no longer need to meet the jam along Jln Boon Lay
Hahaz.. Go Jln Bahar and go up to PIE , come down again Pionner Rd nth (Exit 3Originally posted by SBS BUSES LOVER:hope for Alternate route along non stop express sector like 502 . then BC can use any route he wants to get there .

I was wondering if 179A can instead ply Boon Lay Way/Pioneer Road North express to NTU instead. I once took taxi (yes taxi, not bus) from Boon Lay to NTU using that route. Only took 8 minutes. Not forgetting Boon Lay Way is a wider road than JW St 63 and lesser traffic lights..from kuekj
No use increasing the number of buses. The main problem is bus bunching which is caused by the reasons I posted about 6 posts above. if you average out the bus loading, then each bus only about all fully seated.Originally posted by tanjun:from kuekj
Both ideas are feastible in my opinion in decreasing the time needed for a trip from BNL to NTU.
However, this can act as a form of stepping stone to solve the problem of demand over supply. Increase the number of bus deployed on 179A is still my ultimate solution.![]()
