Beginner's guide to sgbusforums

Im relatively new to this forums and I find that there are many bus lingo in this forums which may be hard to understand for a newcomer. I took quite some time to 'decipher' some of the phrases too. I started this thread so the more common phrases can be explained. Maybe this thread can be made sticky or sth so other newcomers can easily refer to this before it is buried into the mass of inactive threads after a few weeks?
Some of those I know
TS = Thread starter
SD = single deck
DD = double deck
SP = spare
NAC = non aircon
FAC = fully aircon
PAC = partially aircon
EDS = Electronic display for bus svc number at the front of buses, mainly on SMRT ones
JIS = Jurong Industrial svc
BIH = bus info hub (businfohub.com)
cameo = buses that appear on a route for a day to take over perm buses that may be under repair etc
rego = bus licence plate number
desto = the plastic plate with the bus svc number seen at the front/back of buses
cross-over/x-over = buses that serve more than one service every day
skyliner = ads that juts upwards from the side of buses
Some that I still dont really understand
CAC = converted aircon (?)
troll = spammer (?)
OAC
UD
Im not sure whether all these are correct. Can some senior members check and add other phrases. A short summary of the different bus models would be nice here too. -
CAC = Converted Air Con, buses that were originally non-airconditioned but were retrofitted with air conditioning. One such example is the SMRT Scania ELBO.Originally posted by tvcnq:Some that I still dont really understand

UD = It's just a company trademark of Nissan. We don't know abbreviation. Even Wikipedia does not mention the full term of the abbreviation. Source -

the guide posted by Tamago quite long ago here. the thread expired already. and some pix not available anymore. but still quite thorough.
off topic: i lurked in sg bus forums for abt a year to farmiliarise with all the terms before i finally signed up. so that won't say the wrong thing then get scolded...

actually quite a lot of better photos have come since it was first conceptualised in 2004, and i guess it'll be an community effort in having a bit of everyone's photo into the newcomer's guide.

I muddled my way through last time, but thanks to all the laojiao, I no longer know nuts although there's still alot I'm not sure of. -

partial Air-con bus is a 90s catch phrase. then they used it to describe a bus service.
a bus service is called partial air-con service if half its fleet is air-con bus and other half is non air-con bus. a common situation in 90s.
today still got partial air-con services
like bus 93, 74 or 151.
the short form is PAC.

CAC: Converted Air-con
this one use first used in the late 80s when SBS converted non air-con leyland Victories to air-con buses. in Essence u can say they "mod" the bus in race car lingo if u want.
today some of he Scania are CAC. so are some mark 2s. on the SMRT side many merc are CAC. even the ex CSS UD many are CAC.
OAC - original air-con
essentially coined in 2000 . then in 1989 Scanias came as non air-con and air-con variants. in 2000, SBS converted some NAC Scania to Air-con bus. so to differentiate the CAC scania,, the orginal air-con scania was called.

personally the buses aint that cuddly n cute but nevertheless most of the folks have started using this 'KUB"
KUB will refer to any K series engined Scania in Singapore. More importantly when discussing on SBS buses, KUB will automatically mean a Scania k230UB bus.
KUB comes from the first and last two letters of the Scania k230Ub bus model name.
However if SBS decides to bring in K series double deck bus then i dunno leow

meanwhile the "LUB" coined in 1999 by erm..hee me, refers to Singapore's only Scania L94UB SBS2888T.
