toking abt speed limiter, let's say abt SMRT buses' speed limiters. even wif speed limiters fitted and set at 60km/h, buses can still chiong and the speed limiters do nothing...r they broken down or something else?Originally posted by Yusry:5 speed for some buses like 9888. But whether it actually reaches the 5th gear before the speed limiter kicks in remains to be seen.
Scania previously produced 3 speed too .Originally posted by Scania:ZF produced 2 speed and 4 speed gearboxes.
ZF currently produces 5 speed and 6 speed gearboxes.
Voith produces 3 speed and 4 speed gearboxes
Merc produced 3 and 4 speed gearboxes.
As long its within 55-65km/h then its okayOriginally posted by nenepokey:toking abt speed limiter, let's say abt SMRT buses' speed limiters. even wif speed limiters fitted and set at 60km/h, buses can still chiong and the speed limiters do nothing...r they broken down or something else?
I still remember a very long time ago when I was taking a former 851 bus, TIB 0800 R. Wah... the BC drove at nearly 100km/h!Originally posted by carbikebus:As long its within 55-65km/h then its okay
Sure its nearly 100km/h? I dunno why..but sometimes when travelling in the bus, the speed that you feel that you're travelling at is actually much less than the actual speed of the bus. Am i right to say that?Originally posted by Oceane:I still remember a very long time ago when I was taking a former 851 bus, TIB 0800 R. Wah... the BC drove at nearly 100km/h!
You can hear the high pitch of the engine as the BC jamming the acclerator.
Now my favourite BC is the TIB 1207 Y BCs. Got 2, one is lau ah pek, another is middle-aged Indian man. Both love revving bus.
Don't be surprised if TIB 1207 Y comes extra early.
Very sure... I could mark out a huge difference between a bus travelling at 70km/h and 100km/h. The pressure and sound made by the engine is simply too high.Originally posted by SBS 9631X:Sure its nearly 100km/h? If I remember it correctly... the BC performed his stunt at Marymount Road.Originally posted by Oceane:Very sure... I could mark out a huge difference between a bus travelling at 70km/h and 100km/h. The pressure and sound made by the engine is simply too high.
If I feel that the speed is lesser than actual, means that when I was TIB 0800 R that time it travelled more than 100?![]()

I believe some of the MKIV DMs?Originally posted by ^tamago^:As above.
if it's Voith it's 3-speed (with a rare few old buses and 50 B9TL's having 4-speed).
if it's ZF it's 4-speed (except B9TL's which have 6 speeds).
So it's either 3, 4 or 6 (B9TL only).
The only thing i can think of is , the bus is suffering from gear slippage . Hence it might sound like its dragging gears.Originally posted by SBS3625D:I believe some of the MKIV DMs?
Can someone fill me in on this?
And just wondering, is 9423E still dragging it's gears? Is it ZF that it's using? Because the other VO3X that had this problem have mostly been repaired. Only 9423E still persists in that as far as I can recall. Is there by any chance that it's using a 4-speed voith?
Possibly, but come to think of it, I've never heard 9423E sound like a normal VO3X. From the time I took interest in it in 2003 till now, 4 years already, still sound the same.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:The only thing i can think of is , the bus is suffering from gear slippage . Better performance . Having more speed allows a quicker acceleration. It also places less strain on the engine . Take for example , a bike with 6-speed gears and a bike with 8-speed gear. The bike with 8-speed is definitely easier to ride on.Originally posted by dfs24:Speaking of speeding, I find that Sv77 Volgren often speed, and usually travel at about 80km/h along some sections of the route. I think they revised the time sheet for Sv77 because now the buses speed less than before.
Also, what are the advantages of having more speed in a gear box? More fuel efficient? Better performance for various road conditions?
I would only agree on the part about placing less strain on the engine.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:Better performance . Having more speed allows a quicker acceleration. lots of bus hav this problems. SBS9534T hav this problem too. onli one sound. TIB928G and TIB1011U oso the same. but lyk it coz hav the feeling that the bus will surely chiongOriginally posted by SBS3625D:Possibly, but come to think of it, I've never heard 9423E sound like a normal VO3X. That's why I'm asking. Nor is it the first or second or even third time I'm asking around. Nobody appears to know the answer. I wanted to ask the BC, but then it got transferred out of 88.

when i took it 2 months ago like dun have gear slippage anymore. but the exhaust is still very blackOriginally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:TIB1011U.![]()
This bus has slip gear for a long time oredi. That time took it , the exhaust super black.![]()
Are u sure its at 100km/h or not.....at 60km/h, the needle is already past the half mark of the speedo liaoOriginally posted by Oceane:I still remember a very long time ago when I was taking a former 851 bus, TIB 0800 R. Wah... the BC drove at nearly 100km/h!

I remember TIB 1011 U used to be driven by a chiongster BC who loved speeding; maybe that's the cause of the black exhaust?Originally posted by 201911:when i took it 2 months ago like dun have gear slippage anymore. but the exhaust is still very black![]()
