[edit] London firesFrom winki
When Transport for London bought articulated Citaros in 2003 and 2004, four buses caught fire, luckily with no casualties besides the buses. In fact, one was burned on delivery, for reasons unexplained. Mercedes-Benz did, however, address the problem, though the buses were withdrawn for some time. Unfortunately, these buses were said to have marred the reputation of articulated buses in the United Kingdom, and some Londoners nicknamed them "Chariots of Fire"
Nice one....despite a warning, "Livewings" keep editing the SBS Transit page in Wikipedia, and the edits he made are usually about Merc O.530s being introduced.Originally posted by 201911:the joker livewings anyhowly edit again...
Eh , no . The fire is caused by a faulty fuel line i think . MB has since addressed the problem and there are fewer or infact no fires on the Citaros now.Originally posted by kenn3th:and fireproneesp in singapore's climate
Articulated DDs?Originally posted by sbst275:1st was MB arti, now MB SDs... next MB DDs?

I seriously doubt the fact that engine burn up solely because of Singapore's hot climate . If so , that means that the engines are very sensitive , not good . Even so , if SG's climate don't suit the O405s , over 75% of them would have burnt up by now . However , only a few got burnt up , which in some cases is due to the BCs mishandling (did not check water tank , etc.) .Originally posted by sBs_boy:Think of the climate.
We already have cases of O405s being burnt up due to overheating. Do you think the O530s can handle the climate of SIngapore ?
IMO, the only model which is suitable for our tropical climate is the Merdz O500s. The large no. of buses operated by the Aust Operators has proved that the O500s can handle the hot climate that it will be in service.
Boss,The O405s are far more rugged than O500 i dare say.The breakdown rate for an old buses is still low compared to other modelsOriginally posted by sBs_boy:Think of the climate.

nope . u should understand that most European bsues cannot handle hot climate. as u know engine by product is heat. n if radiator not zai enough FOOOOM.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:I seriously doubt the fact that engine burn up solely because of Singapore's hot climate . in terms of looking for suitable climtae models u shd go HK see what buses they use.
IMHO the B9TL was never suitable for our climate. the heat it generates is so much.

If Citaro can handle hot climate well.. Then i dont see the need on why they had to come out with a O500 for the Aust market when they could just sell O530s over to Aust operators.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:I seriously doubt the fact that engine burn up solely because of Singapore's hot climate . Erh , i thot the OC500 and O530s share similar drivetrains?Originally posted by sBs_boy:If Citaro can handle hot climate well.. Then i dont see the need on why they had to come out with a O500 for the Aust market when they could just sell O530s over to Aust operators.
O530s was never sold as a chassis, only as a fully built up with bodywork. If the aust operators had to ship a few thousand fully built up buses, its going to cost them money that they didnt need to. Aust has their own bodybuilding companys, thus O500LE or the previous O405NH chassis had bodyworks from aust themselves for cost saving.Originally posted by sBs_boy:If Citaro can handle hot climate well..
