Oh no not again.
I just read it, it seems to imply that they were evaluating offers from scania and volvo at the same time, then decided to purchase from scania, since it says "while". This is not so unreasonable, at least we knew they had actually evaluated offers from Volvo, something we expect SBST would do. -

and till now, exactly 50 K230UB's are registered (8033-8082).

Talking about bus fires, over the last 15 years here i recall, there tends to have been more cases involving Saab-Scanias N113 than Mercedes-Benzes.
M-B omnibuses come not only from cold countries like Europe but also from tropical countries like Brazil !! The engines used on Citaro (whether Euro-4 or even Euro-5) are basically same as those used on Brazilian sourced O 500's like OH 1725 L etc. in Johor Baru & Kuala Lumpur nowadays, therefore heat & humidity cannot pose any real problems.
If the fires seems too frequent in the UK then i'm more likely to suspect foul play from some (local) people there who i believe don't like to see the gradual demise of their once great & famous British bus industry go down the drain with the 'liberalization' practices since around 2000 which saw a steady 'flood' of integrally-constructed OEM CBU buses from Europe being sold & used in UK like the O 405 G & nowadays the Citaro G.
About O 530 (i.e. Citaro) being bough & used in Singapore, to my latest knowledge, that seems somewhat NOT likely (least for now) unfortunately ! I think so because i've been told Daimler (the maker) has 'written off' Singapore as a market for the heavy-duty (i.e. 'big') M-B bus & coach ! They seem to be following the footsteps of MAN by directing their sales efforts @ Malaysia & not bothering anymore with Singapore since it's only a chickenfeed market here, especially with Volvo & Saab-Scania having quite substantial presence already in such a small market with hardly much room for any more makes ?!
I however do hope that Daimler hasn't written off the Singapore market yet because i do believe the Citaro can still exist in Singapore with a win-win situation for both the Germans & the locals here in that Daimler can say get Comfort-Delgro to produce the Citaro from CKD form, roughly similar to what C&C Bintang in Malaysia have been doing all the years producing M-B cars from CKD kits for their local market. Doing this way would ensure that one would still get a 'real' (i.e. original bodied) M-B bus to the same exacting standards as those produced in Germany, while giving the local partners some business instead of importing the bus CBU from Germany, which would have deprived the local bus body makers of almost any business, which can be a strong decisive factor among certain 'forces' here insisting on buying only bus-chassi & getting 'Ah Lim, Ah Kow' to produce the bus body so that the locals still have rice in their rice bowl ?!
Even if Daimler doesn't have any joint-production venture in Singapore, i won't rule out them doing it in Malaysia with Hicom instead. If domestic volume is too small to sustain production, they could produce for the Asean region 'closed' market as well ? Singapore can then still buy the Citaro from Malaysia just as it bough the M-B taxis from India. -
