the original N113 scania got very powerful acceleration and can speed well esp on highways. i think think this model is more suited for expressway routes. the gear ratio of these buses were later adjusted around the mid 90s to weaken their acceleration. but still its still capable of high speed travel.Originally posted by sir_peanuts:it's my personal feeling, really.
scania, no matter what age, feels slow. the latest feels ok, the N113 really feels dead, although it's quiet. i dunno how it goes on express routes, feels like carpark speed.
any views?
The gearbox was later changed to a Voith gearbox which weakened its performance, and of course the Voith created the pronunced vibrations which the Scanias did not used to have.Originally posted by SBS3688Y:the original N113 scania got very powerful acceleration and can speed well esp on highways. i think think this model is more suited for expressway routes. the gear ratio of these buses were later adjusted around the mid 90s to weaken their acceleration. but still its still capable of high speed travel.
i've taken scania on svc 3, 35 and 39 (and former 390) along the expressways and they can speed really well and cool and even overtaking the Tridents and Volvo Mk4s! and i don't hear the bus feeling "exhausted" when speeding (unlike Volvo Mk2). the scania also does a wonderful job on svc 29 esp along Netheravon Rd, and Changi area. the rest depends on the drivers whether they want to speed or not. but it'd boring to take scania on feeder and estate routes as the bus is unable to display its full capability.
Strange to see that I always see SBST MB0405 from Express 502 & 8N chiong very much along the PIE in the nightOriginally posted by 201911:0405 is built for travelling within the city, B10M is built for expressway coach. so 0405 pickup speed is good so that it can travel efficiently in the city and can chiong between bus-stops. but on the expressway cannot go that fast.
i always thought that SMRT's is faster.Originally posted by sir_peanuts:it's my personal feeling, really.
but the SBS O405s have the best pickup around, even after so many years, can feel it accelerating quickly and the engine is powerful.
volvo B10M has this noisy feel. esp on highway, on express routes, i keep feeling that they've not been pushed to the limit, or it sounds like a bus stuck in second gear or something.

Yes ZF Mercs have a faster accleration. SBS3899E used to have a very fast accleration until they re-tuned the gearbox (probably due to complains from drivers).Originally posted by muziq bus:i always thought that SMRT's is faster.
And i was right.
966 was racing with 52. 52 on lane one and 966 on lane two at PIE at night.
966 floor the pedal and accelerated at godspeed. 52 tried but only managed to trail behind and couldnt even reach beyond 65
well, that was my experience. haha.
what are the regos ?Originally posted by Scania:Yes ZF Mercs have a faster accleration. SBS3899E used to have a very fast accleration until they re-tuned the gearbox (probably due to complains from drivers).
Regos: TIB425R to TIB561E, TIB572Z to TIB634D, TIB725A to TIB832Z, SBS228L, SBS3841X, SBS3899E, list may not be exhaustive.Originally posted by SBS BUSES LOVER:what are the regos ?
I agree the SBS O405s to my feeling is the most powerful.Originally posted by sir_peanuts:it's my personal feeling, really.

Yesterday a 187 Nissan just overtook us like a speed car WITH FULL LOAD . Ours is a 171 Merc . Imagine that.Originally posted by -SIMPLICITY-:I agree the SBS O405s to my feeling is the most powerful.
But i like the SMRT Nissans cause when on expressway.
It speeded super fast![]()
Nissans are much better than the ELBOs
ELBOs vibrate like crazy when the bus stop.![]()

I rode TIB832Z on NR2 on 1st July 2007 (12:05 am) and it sped at 90 km/h passing several cars and taxis and even tried to race with an off-service Scania which was travelling at about 90km/h too on PIE.
wat about LO3x?Originally posted by carbikebus:Who says O405s Can run,Ever heard of O405 express buses? The problem with SG Govt is they like to limit the buses speed to 60,Thats why all the stupid no pick up/Top speed occured.Scania N113CRB is one of the most powerful buses that ever produced!
haha lol... just took SBS9199? last week... 2nd lane 50% of the way... overtake trident and O405Originally posted by swee_heng:SBS9190B:
In Nov 2004 , this bus did a cameo on 168 & it speed at about 90 km/h , it broke the record of the journey time from Bedok - Woodlands of 48mins , the normal ones takes 60mins to travel from Bedok - Woodlands. It overtook vehicles on the left lane & motorbikes had to use 100km/h to overtake this bus.
striders sound constipated to meOriginally posted by patdog112:Strider also can chiong well and smooth...
