9159T is a good LO. Why a lot of people say 9199C can chiong? I take like pick-up cannot make itOriginally posted by SBS3625D:There are many BR and AM LOs that can run.
My personal favourite is 9159T. Dunno why, but this particular LO has a very high pick-up speed. Haven't come across another LO that accelerates that fast.
I like it when the LOs gearbox gets tuned to the same as the VOs, great way to show off the abundant torque of the cummins engine.![]()
Lance got powerful acceleration, from slow to suddenly fast. but if u want a really chiongster bus u can try 1010Y or 1011U, can chiong well on lentor road and lornie road, these two stretches not much passenger traffic so the bus can chiong better. but any bus can chiong, as long as the top speed/ acceleration is not limited and the driver is willing to chiong.Originally posted by TIB1224Y:I just love the feeling of the Volgren bodied 0405G, for example, 1182J.
Yeah, the feeling of acceleration forces pushing you against the seats, that is quite sensational.
Just try not to be the standing passenger...
Regarding the Lance, its just simply fast... Took 1009C yesterday and it was really an 'express feeling'...
Seems like TIB1011U is both a good & bad bus . Super chiong , but sooty exhaust.Originally posted by 201911:Lance got powerful acceleration, from slow to suddenly fast. but if u want a really chiongster bus u can try 1010Y or 1011U, can chiong well on lentor road and lornie road, these two stretches not much passenger traffic so the bus can chiong better. but any bus can chiong, as long as the top speed/ acceleration is not limited and the driver is willing to chiong.
All buses and heavy vehicles in Singapore is governed to the max speed limit of 60km/h and it's mandatory to fix speed limiters to all public buses to limit their speed to 60km/h..so no matter how fast the BC wanna chiong, max 60km/h nia..it's the acceleration that counts..Originally posted by 201911:Lance got powerful acceleration, from slow to suddenly fast. but if u want a really chiongster bus u can try 1010Y or 1011U, can chiong well on lentor road and lornie road, these two stretches not much passenger traffic so the bus can chiong better. but any bus can chiong, as long as the top speed/ acceleration is not limited and the driver is willing to chiong.
Seriously, it is not always the case that the bus is within 60kph.Originally posted by alleggerita:All buses and heavy vehicles in Singapore is governed to the max speed limit of 60km/h and it's mandatory to fix speed limiters to all public buses to limit their speed to 60km/h..so no matter how fast the BC wanna chiong, max 60km/h nia..it's the acceleration that counts..![]()
For the old buses, maybe it won't be fully limited to 60km/h because the speed limiters is getting old already..Originally posted by sBs_boy:Seriously, it is not always the case that the bus is within 60kph.
It is not the problem of whether the speed limit is old or new.Originally posted by alleggerita:For the old buses, maybe it won't be fully limited to 60km/h because the speed limiters is getting old already..
Speed limiter saying: "Damn! I'm getting old..I can't control the bus anymore! I should retire soon.."

Why must be so serious? Cannot even take a joke lightly?Originally posted by sBs_boy:It is not the problem of whether the speed limit is old or new.
old = cannot limit the speed of the bus ??
It does not make any sense at all.
With regards to what im trying to say, u guys know what i mean. I shall go no further.
I wonder if the BC of TIB 1011 U was the same as last time... in the past the perm BC driver for TIB 1011 U really chiongster... always at Lentor Ave overtake other O405s or Scanias...Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:Seems like TIB1011U is both a good & bad bus . Not to forget that this bus has slip-gear.
I like Cummins engines for their exceptional power . The LO3x , Lances and DTs are some Cummins powered buses and they have superb speed . I can't say much for Darts as i have not taken them .
But Lance confirm 'feels faster' than merc.Originally posted by sir_peanuts:but i really do feel that the SBST O405s are the most powerful. it just feels fast as compared to a LO3x. even if the LO3x is really faster it doesn't have the fast feeling.
Do u see any?Originally posted by SBS 233 X:To west-siders, 179 got any CMI LO3x?

YAY!Originally posted by SBS 233 X:28's 9169P and 9174Z also not bad.

Heh... the SBST O405s are much slower than our Olympian DDs... I think it's because they are fitted with W3E gearboxes... maybe if it was ZF then it'd be faster.Originally posted by sir_peanuts:but i really do feel that the SBST O405s are the most powerful. it just feels fast as compared to a LO3x. even if the LO3x is really faster it doesn't have the fast feeling.
I doubt its the gearbox's fault . Certain factors affect the O405's speed . First , the Olympians uses a larger tire than the O405s. The DDs have 295/80 R22.5 while the O405s have 275/70 R22.5 . A vehicle with larger tires have higher top speed .Originally posted by Oceane:Heh... the SBST O405s are much slower than our Olympian DDs... I think someone did mention before that ZF gearboxed buses have higher acceleration... LOLs.Originally posted by Scania N113CRB luver:I doubt its the gearbox's fault . The merc have a hub reduction axle. A hub reduction's purpose is to reduce rotational speed while increasing torque . The DDs have a single drive thru axle , which is quieter in operation and allows higher top speed.

Having a hub reduction axle does has its pro and cons . The cons is that the bus' speed will be reduced . The pros will be that when carrying a heavy load up a hill , say the bus is fully laden , the bus can still move up the hill without crawling like a snail .Originally posted by alleggerita:But gearbox affects to a certain extend as well la..
With only 3 gears to play with in the W3E gearbox, the gear ratios must have been super high..even for first gear..it takes a very long time for the O405 to change to 2nd gear..i got observe before..sometimes the BC can just go from one bus stop to the other in the first gear only..
But when other gearboxes have 5 gears, the gear ratios are much better spaced and thus acceleration much faster..So can say the Merc is at a triple disadvantage..it has a dumb gearbox, a hub reduction axle and small tyres..
But there's no denying it's powerful torque when accelerating from standstill..which somewhat compensates for the tall gearing ratio..![]()
I don't think small tyres are the cause in this case... they are about the same size as the other SD buses. The only buses which I think have small tyres are the B10TLs.Originally posted by alleggerita:But gearbox affects to a certain extend as well la..

And though the engines of the B10TLs are super noisy, it doesn't seem to accelerate that fast.... =/Originally posted by Oceane:I don't think small tyres are the cause in this case... they are about the same size as the other SD buses.
