Most possibly from existing stores, but I don't think they just found any gearbox which they deem compaitable and fit it into the bus, there needs to be some considerations about such an action.

Of course of course.....
There must be a compelling reason behind the replacement of the voith gearbox.
The letter "J" of SBS 0852 J (BNDEP 033) has fallen off, picture taken on Sunday, September 28, 2008.
This thing about 9806J reminded me of another issue regrading ZF gearboxes, how the gear boxes are tuned.
In the case of 9888Y (and earlier HK B10TLs), 3922X, 530M, 228L, Mk2s, Mk 4s, ZF Bendies, ZF Tridents, non-AMDEP TIBS/SMRT O.405 (mainly), there seem to be an additional slip gear when the bus acclerates.
In the case of VO3x, LO3x, 9806J and other ZF Mercs (including TIBS/SMRT AMDEP), there isn't any obvious slip gear, and the bus goes straight into 2nd gear.
I've heard many sample recordings of this bus (Including ^tamago^'s one) for 9806J.
The bus should be reaching a max 4-speed and judging by the fact that it sounds like a VO or an LO (both which sounds about the same too), the best answer for its gearbox should still be ZF 4HP500. Also, the gearbox selector buttons (If anyone has seen it besides me) resembles that of the same 4HP500 used on LO3xs.
I don think a ZF 4HP500 can go with VSO engine
i think a ZF 4HP590 for 9806 and about 9888 Maybe also a ZF 4HP590
(I Cannot comfirm anything here)
Is also hard to say about what kind of Gearbox use on 9806
as for the B9TL also 7448 have a much high rpm the most of the other B9TL
the former vo2x 7297 of ex SBS
Now
I love Children bus
will be a Tiong bahru plaza today to commenmorate
Chhildrens day
go see see!

01:36 4th gearthe soft whistle at 4th gear might be deceiving, but it’s not a 5th gear whistle, which is more distinct than that. (:
its not a slip, its the torque convertor boosting the 1st gear proces before reaching 2nd... i think

finally drop off liao.....hahaha.....a lot of mk 3 also like this one.....those characters are danglings all the time and anytime will fall down

Isn't it the lock-up clutch engaging, thus connecting the engine to the driving axle?

There are lots more in the latter category, but only one in the former. I can recall off the top of my head, the bus stop at West Coast Park (route 175 goes there but doesn't call at the bus stop, but it does call at the bus stop opposite the park).
And this is one of the countless reasons why I hate SMRT - monopolising areas within SBS Transit's territories with their pit-bottom "service".
Hmmm... right now I'm looking at the video of SBS 9806J, and the engine does sound like a Volvo Olympian (the second and third batch versions, to be exact), and if my memory on such things are not failing me, SBS 9888Y sounds nothing like it (in fact, I personally find SBS 9888Y sounding a lot like the other production Super Olympians). Comparing SBS 9806J's engine with a Volvo Olympian, they do sound similar and they both have that same whine, albeit with a lower pitch (probably the Super Olympian's engine, which is (in?!)famously loud and booming), and the sound when the engine is idling sounds practically identical to me.
I think many would have noticed that the EDS displayed 'Macpherson East' on Service 66's KUBs.

got a photo some more...
Gear slipping I believe is when the gears somehow make the engine run and change gear at higher RPM, akin to a Formula 1 car, just that one is a technical feat while the other is a technical fault!
W3E, if I am not wrong, have a lock up gear as well, but would always occur on the first gear. A lock up is something like retaining the gear step, bringing the RPM close to its highest power output (torque on the lower end, horsepower on the higher end).ZF gearboxes have lock up on first or second gear. So far ZF and Mercedes gearboxes have the most notable lock up sounds. Whereas for what a lock up in gear can achieve, I am not sure. Some says its for retaining power (which I supported), others is for saving fuel.
One of the few champions for gear slipping and recommended is TIB516L, not repaired since its gearbox failure in 2005.
Gear slipping can lead to the increase wear of the gearbox components and higher fuel consumption.
