I am inspired to ask this after reading the discussion on intra-town/townlink services at the Land Transport Review thread. my area (JW actually) has no such services and I would very much like to know how they work.
why does townlinks/intra-towns exist? is it a way to provide bus services to less busy neighbourhoods that do not warrant having one full service serving it? from what I know these services kind of serve two neighbourhoods at once, with a "central stop" near the interchange to switch to the other neighbourhood.
and can someone explain to me how exactly do they run? especially intra-towns. the thread talked about stopping in the interchange once or twice with passengers. isnt that kind of ridiculous? my friend had lived in woodlands for about 3 years and he is unable to tell me the significance of the E on 911E except that it sometimes doesnt reach his house so he dont take it.
sorry for the long post and thanks for any help :D
replying to deskoh's post (i dun know how to quote): townlink/ intra-town services are basically a merger of 2 feeder services that go to different parts of the estate, such that the new townlink service loops around one end of the estate, then returns to the interchange, loops around another end of the estate and returns to int again. such services were introduced at around 2000, usually found in larger housing estates. they are meant to privde more direct connections for ppl going from one end of the estate to another end, and they no longer need to transfer at int.
1. Does anyone have timings for the following Scanias?
a) SBS 8038R on 100 at Serangoon Bus Interchange.
b) SBS 8049J on 123 at Bukit Purmei Avenue. Does this bus have a 123A/123M X-Over?
c) SBS 8061Y on 174 at NBR.
I'll do the calculations of other places that are of my need-to-visit areas where possible.
2. I would like to know more about the organisation system of 103M. Check that all apply regarding about 103M.
a) There are only P, E and T shifts on 103M.
b) 103M buses also do 103 and vice-versa.
c) When 103M takes buses from another service, they take only from 103.

The bus that does 123A in the morning will do 123M and 123. the time it does 123 is around 1545hrs from Bt Merah. Add about 45-50min to the midpoint.
103M and 103 basically uses the same buses. As long as the timing is fit for 103M, a 103 bus will do it. It was the same as 103W. cos the 103 and 103M frequency evens up along the 103/103M route. The frequency differs when their route deviates.
So you decide which of the 3 you should check.
Anyone knows what is the box for that is beside the coinbox on SBS9516X?

Guys, this morning i saw someone been complaining @ Eunos Int TK office on why 94 should have DD during morning peaks,he mentioned that he always cannot board the bus due to overcrowding.Do you'll think 94 warrants a DD?

I agree with this, the passengers jam up the bus at Sims Ave bus stop. By the time the bus reaches Eunos Link it will be full. And S94 even do crossover to S63A, I believe they could have remove this crossover to improve the frequency, or let other service like S60 to do the crossover to S63A. Otherwise either S60 or S154 DD do the crossover to S94.![]()
Yes, Sv94 should get 1 - 2 Split Shift DDs. SBS 564 R from Sv60 used to do x-over to Sv63A but i Sv60's loads already high enough and having such a crossover would affect Sv60 instead, so would having DD x-over from Sv60 affect Sv60. Sv154 DDs are required during the peak hours. Perhaps replacing 1 - 2 Split Shift Mercs to DD would be a good idea.

S94 doesnt need DDs. It just need to beef up the freq to 4min from the current 6min. In short add one more trip between 0715-0740hrs will do. the S94 buses that xover do S63A doesnt affect the above mentioned period of time since PLAB start work at 0800hrs. the demand for S94 would have gone down after that.
mr 238 how many s shifts does 10 and 132 have..ar side have any?
Sv 154 alrdy got waiting time prob, getting them to do cross over makes it worst
