To say it briefly, all the WL intratown routes were all combined with 2 routes, one of them being the E route and the other is the one without E
I find it abit inappropriate to label one portion of the route as the "E" route and the other as the portion without.
The suffix "E" is not exclusive to any portion/loop of the route. It so happens that TIBS/SMRTB decided to make buses end their trips with the western loops most of the time.
You were either too young or not a frequent traveller or resident commuting on the intratown services since the time of TIBS when
both east and west loops for 911, 912 and 913 had terminating trips, or "E" trips. Such is a very common practice to maintain frequencies on the eastern loops while the western loops experience delays and such due to the infamous Woodlands checkpoint jams.
Nowadays with the checkpoint traffic diverted away from the Woodlands Centre Road somewhat, such massive traffic jams are getting less common but they still take place. And thus such practices of having "E" trips on the east loops still remain, but sre limited to only a few trips as they now have in place contingency plans where buses change services at the junctions of Woodlands Centre Road/Marsiling Road and Centre Road/Admiralty Road to avoid the jammed up area altogether.
As such, there is no such thing as "
one of them being the E route and the other is the one without E".
