Nowadays it's an integration of both automatic and clutchless manual in one multi clutch gearbox which can change gear faster than a skilled racer on a manual gearbox.
And now it's 8 speeds automated manual gearbox with the size of a 6 speed gearbox. The new AUDI R8 is using the ZF 6 speeds gearbox.
Bus using tiptronic? of course can. depends which builder wanna spend the money to buy it. Whoever wants can always integrate it into the bus.
The ZF vision for the coming years is ambitious. I have the Drive magazine DVD. Who's interested to watch it? it's only a 11min DVD but very informative. In both German and English. -
Isn't the Scania Opticruise similar to the Tiptronic?

Secondly, whistle doesn't mean Voith. There are other distinguishable factors that can help differentiate between Voith/W3E/ZF. There are certain buses in AMDEP that do have a slight whistle when they accelerate, but does that mean they are Voith? -

u can identify voith whistle. sit more voith bus and hear the whistle pitching. then can match with other bus. aalso voith whsitle only happens once bus engage retarder sequence.
voith whhsitle generay will only happen if bus is ravelling real fast and the driver jam brakes or slow down from speed of over 45km/h. steady sllowing down do not produce voith whsitles most of the time.

topic; I love ZF cat calls
yes sir. i love Zf ccatcalls.
however in Singapore only one bus model produce this unique sound.
the Scannia k230UB. this translates to me liking the k230Ubs.
the cat call will only happen once the bus manages to shift all the way to 6.
i'm not to sure how k230Ub shifts bitbut da it will do the following (in my opinion)
engage D. move into first gear
a slight jerk indicates torque converter then another slight jerk n change in engine tune to 2nd gear.IF only one jerk if torque converter sleep or slip gear occurs. at this point use Zf howl to decide if third gear...
during the 1st and 2nd gear changes passengers will tend to feel the bus suddenly chu power n jerk around. is not driver fault. its all due to slip gears and torque converters
a loud Zf howl to signify third gear now
at third gear a sudden change in tone to 4th gear
at 4th the tone will go up then a 'hub reduction' type of noise will happen. this noise is also noticeable in the b7RLE when it hits 5th gear..
if the bus still shits, it means the hub reduction like sounds will disappear and the bus engages in optimal gear 6th. at this stage he engine will be in low pitch hum. Because the suspension of k230Ub abit hard, i dun get the floating sensation like SJE L113 sounding type scanias.
the bus will eventually have to engage the reatarding sequences. before that some sort of locking sensation to the gearbox must happen.
THIS is where the catcall happens.
- the first time i heard it i thought got stray kitten on bus.
note: some scanias do not display the above charcteristic because
1) : Radiator too loud.
2) the ZF whistle is obscuring the background engine noise. like 8080. i am so weak i cant detect any gear shifts at this point aas the whsitle pitches differently from engine pitch.
3) the Zf whistle turns into a police car siren wailing and u get distracted by the police siren noise and ignore the rest of sounds. (SBS8067)
hope u guys enjoy catcalls and Zf6speed gearboxes like i do

Anyway , the most of the cat call IMO is at gear 5th for Scania .
Oh ya , try catching TIB475X and TIB537B . The part where it change from gear 1 to 2 sounds like a cat trying to scratch you .

yes i been told its 5th gear.
but 6th gear is my own opinion n guess.
we remind all that for true detection of gearbox shifts on Zf use MobiDig and for voith use the laptop with the diagnostic program software thingy.
our human ears n bones dun really give us, the layman, a clear accuracy of when and how the gear shifts. Sadly we will have to guess and assume on this type of matter.
in doubt consult the equipment i listed above.

Btw, that day I took SBS 3904Z on svc 185 the "eeee" sound come like that.. When the bus accelerates, the engine goes "eeeeee" all the way until it stop. -
