oops after reading the news media this morning, i clarify that it is not through fare, it is EVEN BETTER THAN THROUGH FARE!
it is DISPLACEMENT FARE!
suppsoe u go from tammpines to pasir ris
if u were to go thru bedok,
or u jsut go direct,
u pay the same fare.
this is because the fare is based on your displacement and not how u travel. that is the ultimate in bus fare systems. i daresay no one in the world would even consider this fare system as it simply is too hard to implement and very very fair.
i'm sure the authroities here will find a suitable way to set up the displacement fare systems to count our fares. its rather simple really. just use a singapore map. then draw straight line from start to end. then use the straight line pop the fare out.
only difficulties i note is how u know the guy gg to trasnfer? if trasnfer how long shd we allow him to wait for next bus and count as trasnfer ride? has he ended his trip or is he going on with more bus ride to get to his place?
no doubt on that. the issues should be resvoled before the system comes up

Will SMRT bid?

Uncouthly profit-driven? More cost cutting? If it were a service like 882 they won't want to bid right?
I can't wish to see that SBST outbid SMRTB yet maintain low and reasonable fares for everyone through its better bus fleet management and understanding of the bus market. At least they are doing a better job at cost cutting yet making the ride comfortable.
We don't have to look far to know why SMRTB has lost its soul the day it was not longer Tibs and not under charge of ex-Tibs management.
