Driverless bus rolls out of interchange and onto road

February 1, 2008AN UNMANNED bus which rolled backwards out of its parking bay at the Toa Payoh Interchange and onto a nearby road tripped off a chorus of honking from motorists on Wednesday evening.
On board were a bus driver and two of his passengers.
The bus, service 155, had its engine switched off and had been parked in its berth at about 11.20pm, when the bus driver got out of his cabin to help a commuter and her child look for a missing bag on board the vehicle.
SBS Transit said the driver failed to engage the handbrakes fully, so the bus rolled out of the berth and towards Toa Payoh Lorong 6.
After some 60m, it came to a stop when its rear wheels mounted the pavement in front of Toa Payoh Gardens.
The sight of the reversing bus on the road bewildered motorists, who honked to warn others.
One motorist, Ms Neoh Chong Eng, said in an e-mail to The Straits Times: 'I heard a loud continuous honking from the vehicle next to mine. I had to stop to let this strange reversing SBS bus cross the road.'
She said that it was only after the bus had come to a stop that she saw a child, followed by a man and a woman on board, running to the front of the bus.
SBS Transit's director of corporate communications Tammy Tan said the bus driver 'may have been doing a good deed at that point, but he should have been more careful with the brakes'.
She added that disciplinary action would be taken against him.
No one was hurt and no damage was done to the surrounding property or bus.

Haha... this is used to smoke those who're not trained technically in this aspect.

We only see BC biting the bullet. Will the ops head shoulder part of the blame for the BC? The management only need to say "he will be disciplinary dealt with" and expects to answer the public? hahaha... SBS style of senior management.

I've ever encounter a malfunction handbrake on 2 CRBs before(OAC & CAC),the only thing i can do is engaged D button, press foot brake and shout for help @ Interchange(inform OCC too),the darn bus will move after 1-2 mins if you leave it for break![]()
There's a high chance that its a merc. the perm bus for that 2318hrs departure is SBS 0248 D.
