I dont see how Euro V can be MUCH cleaner.
Comparing Euro IV and EuroV, the only difference between the 2 is reduced NOx from 3.5g/kWh to 2.0g/kWh.
I dealt with NEA before. I picked up my colleague's mess and personally handled the issue. The NEA engineer who came to meet me is a person who only knows how to use 'prime minister', 'minister' to whack me. Totally have no idea about why vehicles have black smoke. And the smoke that he was refering to wasn't even black smoke. NEA made SBS Soon Lee send buses for inspection many times. But always pass. And that one bus down just for smoke test in VICOM was still a bus down for the commuters. One particular favourite bus is a Leyland if I still recall was 9040.
Well... they like to pay. So let VICOM earn their money. HAHAHA..
orh the black smoke ah
that one is present in every bus. even EURO V bus. the black smoke is made up of carbon soot. it geenrates inside the engine and builds up inside. so if driver pump acc and unlucky the accumulated stuffs all shoot out, u see the black smoke , NEA catch n brand the bus not pass.
however they have to understand this kind of black soot collects over time plus is in hard to reach places so cannot clean out one. but of cuz if it happens all the time then the bus confirm got problem lah
thats my opinion ....

that is 1.5g per kilo watt hour of reduction.
it says per kWh. now if i not wrong the numebrs of kWh for a a typcial bus is in the hundreds . so bascially u had a very big number say 350g divide 200lkWh to get 1.5 as the number.
ahh maybe like that how? it means 350g of carbon gone in 1 hour leh. big big redcution. when dealing with numbers sided with per unit be careful. small numbers may mean big reductions bro
by the way the Volvo b7RLE has 213kWh rating wor. hahah so my number exmaple above is sui

ya.. and when layman like NEA officers see, they make a big hoohah out of it. ![]()
And I see many commercial vehicles rampaging the roads with the real black smoke. I really wonder how’re their stats are like. How much have they paid out in total to vehicle testing facilities provider to test vehicles for ‘fake’ black smoke.
Haha… reminds me of one term… ‘wayang’![]()
black smoke in usa is allowed on certain vehicles, theres once i saw a video of a dodge pickup with cummins engine drag race vs dodge viper, that thing had THICK BLACK SMOKE streaming out of both pipes. nice, and suffocating
singapore is big no no, and wat zyx says is right, most of the time i see the same bus no smoke, but 1 day bc just revs hard n everything comes out in a cloud

There's one private bus which brings workers from Industrial Estate to drop them off along Boon Lay Way daily. Everytime this bus come and if the wind is blowing towards the interchange, the whole BNL temp interchange will be filled with smoke! And burning smell somemore! Next time will take note of the rego and complain... ![]()
Even if all diesel power vehs using E5 standards, you'll still see them giving out black smoke. Its the driving habits. Not the engine.

Maintenance issue
some SD buses emit much more smoke (not black smoke) than others.
black smoke usually appears when the bus accelerates from stationery position but disappears a few seconds later. but i noticed the UMW Dennis Lance buses are more prone to emit black smoke.
i'm waiting for the day when the price of CNG vehicles becomes as competitive as diesel driven ones and adequate refuelling and maintenance facilities are available locally.
Erm Euro 5 currently requires buses to have the urea addictive (AdBlue), together with a Euro 3 or 4 engine, this is what is known as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR).
AdBlue testing in Singapore has been restricted to cars (esp Merc) RD plates.
Volvo, Mercedes Benz, Caterpillar, Cummins and MAN have SCR options for their engines which meet the Euro 5 emissions. Scania has SCR only for its V8 engines to Euro 4, while their Euro 5 technology is still under dehvelopment.
scania has ethanol-electric fuel bus which are euro V complaint.
does not mean that must have SCR or AdBlue to get EURO V
incidentaly the 2004 make/model mrcedes benz OC500LE r indeed EURO V compliant.. if EURO V had come out in 2004, these models wd meet immdiately

Just to correct, the 2004 (or even 2006) O500LE with their stock engines aren't Euro 5 compliant from the data stated in their specs sheets. The engines was upgraded/replaced with a newer version offering more horsepower and using SCR to meet the Euro 4/5 standards later in 2007/2008.
